Okay this 1990 flick with Steve Guttenberg, Jami Gertz, and Shelley Long has been playing on cable recently under The Boyfriend School. I see on imdb.com that it is a name that it is also named by but I like the original title better.

Can you think of other films that have used the aka after so long. For example I think that The Lost Boys is known as something else. I know that Adventures in Babysitting is known as A Night on the Town.

Can you imagine if some of our favorites would have been popular with other names?

There's quite a lot of them.

Some film titles are changed due to copyright holder changes. In other cases, the studio feels that a certain title of a movie in one country might not translate (or sell) as well in a different country. (Example: "Jaws" was released in France as "Le Dents Sur Le Mer", which translates "Teeth of the Sea"!)

One notable 90's movie that I can think of (and recommend) is:

"Sydney" (1997), which is also known as "Hard Eight".

Actually both Jaws and Teeth of the Sea are really cool names, I think it would have done very well with either of those. I wonder why they change titles for different countries? Maybe because they already having something similar or it might not translate well to them so that is why they change it?

I remember that movie with Julia Robers about models was originally called Pret-a-Porter but they changed it to Ready To Wear after it had been released because they thought nobody would know that that's what Pret-a-Porter meant.

Well they were right. That Robert Altman film bombed at the box office maybe in part to the confusing name?

The 80s Movies Rewind says that this is actually an 80s movie. I don't know whether it had a 1989 copyright date or if our very own Nick (who wrote the summary) bent the website's rules. I've never seen the movie and that leads me to ask:

If anybody sees this movie within the next few weeks, could they stay through the closing credits to see if it is an 80s movie by copyright date? I don't subscribe to the Showtime networks.

Side note:

There are some movies released in 1990 that are actually 80s movies by copyright date (There's no "80s spirit" B.S here. These are genuine 80s flicks). The list includes:

-"Lisa"
-"Loose Cannons"
-"Downtown"
-"Impulse"
-"Blue Steel"
-"Revenge"

That means that THESE movies CAN be reviewed on the 80s Movies Rewind. I don't know if "Don't Tell Her It's Me"/"The Boyfriend School" counts.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

Okay I have said it before decades should be from like for example 1982-1992. Things really carried over and it really is hard to tell when a decade really ends.

Julia Roberts also made a movie called SATISFACTION with Justine Bateman. Justine was the star and Julia was part of the ensemble background. When Julia became a "Movie Stahhhhh" they put the movie on TV as "GIRLS OF SUMMER starring Julia Roberts". I believe that is the title the flick uses to this day.

Okay back to the original post on this one, I have just watched this again and I really think it is a cute movie!! I definately like Don't Tell Her Its Me versus The Boyfriend School. The way they have changed the credits on this one makes it look like a made for TV movie. I have watched over half of it and plan on watching the rest of it sometime this weekend.

I miss Steve Guttenberg!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He was hot in this one!!

'Evil Angels' with Meryl Streep and Sam Neill is also known as 'A Cry in the Dark'. I am pretty sure that it was released as Evil Angels over in Australia and A Cry in the Dark in the states but I may have it the wrong way around.
