So after watching Dogfight and absolutely loving it, I began reading up on River. I found alot of information including that at the time of his death he was dating actress Samantha Mathis. I was like why is that name so familiar?? So I looked her up and here she played Nora (the red letter lady) in Pump Up The Volume. I don't know why that facinated me...I must be bored. Hahaha [Razz] !

Hey Cindy,

Samantha Mathis was awesome in "Pump Up The Volume". I would have thought she was dating Christian Slater though, because she was also in "Broken Arrow" with him too. Love that Mad Magazine Spy Vs. Spy outfit she wore in "Pump Up The Volume". [Big Grin]

River Phoenix was a great actor, but took a wrong turn like so many people seem to do. So sad.

Hey Valley,

Pump Up The Volume was a great movie! I really liked Samantha in that. I think she's beautiful. She was also in How To Make An American Quilt with Winona Ryder, although you probably haven't seen it since it's a major chick flick...lol!

I read that she did start dating Christian Slater at one point after River's death. It's kind of weird but River was supposed to be in Interview With A Vampire but when he died, the role went to Christian Slater instead. Christian in turn donated his salary to charity, which I thought was way cool of him.

Incidentally, I just bought a movie called The Thing Called Love with River and Samantha. I have yet to watch it but I've heard good things [Smile] . Have you seen it Valley??

Cindy, I have seen this movie and it's good, but with the cast it should have been way better.

If you ever dreamed of being a country music star, you will probably like this movie. Samantha was great in the movie, but I thought River's part was not up to his acting ability. Sandra Bullock had a cool song called "Heaven Knocking On My Door" she actually sang in the movie.

Btw, my favorite country music movie is "Pure Country" with George Strait.

Valley, I finally got around to watching The Thing Called Love. It was pretty good. My damn tape got chewed in the middle but I got the jist of it. Samantha's character was really likable. River's performance was a bit strained but his singing was great and the song "Until Now" was awesome. I really wish the soundtrack included the actor/actresses' versions. [Roll Eyes]
