Have not seen it, but I know it's based on true events: the whole Warhol club scene included a number of musical & performance artists as well as wannabees. One of them shot Warhol for some reason, but he survived. In fact, he later posed for a portrait in his usual dark garb, but lifted his shirt revealing the bullet scars.

I'm sure you could google Andy Warhol and get some background for seeing the movie.

Lili Taylor is wonderful in anything.

Warhol is famous for coining the phrase that everybody will be famous for 15 minutes.

I believe he also designed the Campbells soup cans and also did the cover work for The Velvet Undegrouds album with the picture of the banana on it.

Ronnie i've seen this one and it's awesome from what I remember....Lily is great in it as "a mentally messed up chick."

I love Warhol's work. I love modern art and Warhol represents 80's to me. Although he was around before the 80's too.

I think the movie centers around Lily's character and her obsession of that scene and Warhol...I remember liking it as the independent it is. [Big Grin]

To Muffy (and anyone else interested):
Another Warhol-related movie that you might want to check out is the 1996 movie "Basquiat", a biopic about the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, a onetime graffitti artist who rises to fame in New York art circles but dies of a heroin overdose. The entire movie takes place during the 80's (1981-1987).

David Bowie plays Warhol in the movie.

Dennis Hopper, Benicio Del Toro, Willem DaFoe, Parker Posey, Gary Oldman, Tatum O'Neal, and even Courtney Love are in this one too!

Steven i've seen Basquiat! It has some of my favorite actors in it,Gary Oldman, Parker Posey...David Bowie as a great Warhol....my huge celebrity crush Benicio....wooo [Wink]

There's something about movies set in the 80's centered around the art world that I love! I wouldn't buy it but I enjoyed it just for the details. [Smile]

Ronnie, it's weird that you bring this movie up. It's been on my mind and I have been trying to find it for awhile now.

You're right about Lili Taylor. She is awesome in just about everything I've seen her do. Did you see her in Pecker with Ed Furlong and Christina Ricci? Great movie! Hilarious! [Big Grin]

Have a vague memory about this film; I don’t think I’ve seen it all; Stephen Dorff in drag, was it this movie, or just last weekend at ‘The Viper Room?’ couldn’t say.

As for Andy Warhole, he was ahead of his time with ideas like ’15 mins of fame’ however he will forever live in infamy in my books, as the man who abused a young David Soul, nobody treats Ken Hutchinson that way.

'Basquiat' is a good movie, quite difficult to watch especially since, in spite of the man’s unique style, you have to watch him destroy himself and have all this potential go up in a puff of white poweder, tragic but brilliant.
