i think i've only seen thorn birds, which i love. but people on here have talked about "V"..which i have never seen. my aunt recommended lonesome dove and it's pretty cheap on amazon. i've been shopping for movies on amazon a lot.

Shogun is hard to follow...my mom LOVES it. I bought it for her 2 years ago for Christmas. I think it might have subtitles in certain places.
I finally saw the Thornbirds for the 1st time...just a few years ago.
My mom loves Lonesome Dove.
I know this is from the 70s...but ROOTS is one of the best mini series ever made.
I bought my mom "The Holocaust"...it's from the 70's too. I got it from Greece last year, for her for Christmas. It stars James Woods and Meryl Streep. It is sad, but very well acted.
Was The North and the South from the 80s...with Patrick Swayze and Kristie Alley?
A really really good one from the 80s, is LACE. I finally got it. It has Phoebe Cates in it.
I reminds me alot of Dynasty.

i want to check out north and south and now that you mention it, ROOTS would be good to see again. the last time i saw that was in jr. high, i believe.

Shogun... no doubt! And it's not hard to follow.... if you're paying attention! And It doesn't need subtitles since almost everything that Blackthorne is told in japanese is translated for him. So you learn some japanese alongside the main character! That's the brilliance of the show!

V is incredibly dated now. It's entertaining, but I found it quite hard to watch recently.
My vote goes for a couple of period series' based on books: 'Brideshead Revisited' and 'Anne of Green Gables'.

How did I forget Lonesome Dove? Great series. Das Boot was a movie not a mini series right? I've seen the movie, it's good, but I never heard of a mini series???

I remember that Das Boot was aired first time here as a three-part mini-series.
Finnish TV2 broadcasted it here in 1985 and i watched it and loved it.

Don't worry about it. It's just hard to quote someone who already used the quote feature. It tends to get messy that way.
Yep, Shogun was probably my favourite mini series at the time. But I doubt that people who aren't the least interested in (old) Japanese culture/customs can really appreciate it. I could be wrong though.
