The most popular girl in school embarks on the most awkward date of her life after she loses a bet and is forced to attend the prom with the school's biggest geek. The real trouble begins when her nervous date gets lost en route to the prom and they end up stranded on the worst side of town.

Several years ago, I mentioned "The Night Before" and only a few people remembered this awesome flick (Devo being one of them). But thanks to the recent release of "The Lost Collection" on DVD, this movie is quickly getting back the appreciation it deserves. It is compared to "After Hours", but for me "The Night Before" is a much more intriguing film.

This is a little trivia: Todd Phillips the director of last year's sleeper hit "The Hangover" was always a fan of Thom Eberhardt who wrote and directed both "The Night Before" and "Night of the Comet".

I enjoyed the interaction and later tranformation of both Keanu Reeves and Lori Loughlin in this movie. Even laughed out loud late in the movie when Reeves asked snobby Suzanne Snyder if she got FM on her hairdo. And David Sherill as the car theft was hilarious as well.

Oh and that dude on the cover with the t-shirt stating 'I Loved Her In Rad' is too cool!

I used to rent this a lot back the the late 80's/early 90's. I just loved this flick from the pimp named Tito, to the club scenes, the dudes in the van stealing from a store, the fun chemistry of Lori Loughlin and Keanu Reaves. I liked this one better than adventures in babysitting. Can't wait to get it on DVD.

I agree, this movie is really good and totally underrated. I had no idea it was out on dvd though - very nice to see.

Off topic: How did I miss these "The Lost Collection" dvds? I see that Morgan Stewart's Coming Home was released as well!

This movie surprised me, because I didn't expect much, and I ended up loving it. Has a lot of memorable scenes.

It has been awhile since I have seen this one but I really enjoyed it. It truly is a lost collection. What others are included in this "Lost Collection"?

Just watched this again tonight. [Smile] I have this thing for "running around town all night" kindof movies........! I was gonna make my own "Valley style" post and call it..........

The Night Before all you gotta do is mention Tito

This really is such an underrated movie. I know I caught it late on tv one night in the 90's and loved it.......I really should buy all of "The Lost Collection" before they do disappear.........everything minus Slaughter High [Big Grin]

I have watched this years back but only vaguely remember bits from it.

Is it really that good?

I do remember it being a bit quirky and even though I've never seen it seemed to be in the exact same vein as scorsese's after hours.

Out of the 2 which one gets your preference?

The night before with keanu reeves or after hours directed by the mighty martin scorsese.

After Hours is really great. Though most consider it a minor film in the Scorsese canon, it's incredibly dark, funny, and entertaining. And Scorsese is such a great director. He understood that it was a "small" film, and he didn't overplay his hand or turn it into one of those jokey "it's just to entertain my friends and me" things like some of Kevin Smith's most recent films.

I'll fight you for Lori Loughlin. Secret Admirer is pretty undervalued. You have both Lori and Kelly Preston, in the same movie. Wowza! Two of the most attractive, sexiest actresses of the 80s. [Smile]

yeah i really liked secret admirer crash,i also think it doesn't quite get the cred it deserves, not only has it got the 2 hotties mentioned it's also got the awesome fred ward starring as well as a kick *** soundtrack.

always liked fred ward,i bet he's a pretty cool guy to meet in person.

mischief with kelly preston(again),catherine mary stewart and jami gertz is another favourite of mine with no shortage of beauties on display!

i will definitely check out after hours at some point,i definitely owe it myself,i've always been curious about it from when i first saw it advertised upon its original release.

i'm not really into those "it's just to entertain my friends and me" type of flicks either,i reckon jay and silent bob strikes back was the most guilty of smith's movies of being this way.

saying that i did like 1985s - into the night which was really a bit of an in joke between landis, his director buddies and the flm buffs amonst the audience.

Fred Ward = cool--Remo Williams, Miami Blues, Secret Admirer... Yep, he's just the kind of man's man that you'd want to go have a drink with. [Smile]

Oh yeah, Mischief has gorgeous actresses all over the place--Preston, Stewart, and Gertz of the incredible cheekbones.

I think that Into the Night is one of Landis's best films. It didn't come across as a goof or existing just for the entertainment of the director and his buddies. It's a really good, thoughtful film. Yes, it has the stunt casting of all those directors, but again, it's fun because the film buffs in the audience are in on the joke. With Kevin Smith of late (Take a look at how self-indulgent Tusk is--he has his wife and daughter and Johnny Depp's daughter in the cast, and Johnny Depp appearing under a fake name with loads of heavy prosthetics and a ludicrous accent. Depp's obviously having a good time overacting, but the audience has a dreadful time with his performance.), I think that only he and his buddies are in on the joke, and they just don't care about entertaining the audience. Landis's worst films--yeah, I'm thinking Burke and Hare, Beverly Hills Cop III, and The Stupids--at least try to entertain even if they don't succeed.
