I was just reading about my favourite horror film ever: An American Werewolf in London - 1981.
There is talk of a remake and I personally am [Mad] about the idea. It is a materpiece and should be left as that.

Thoughts? Or any other movies you think should not be remade or shouldn't have been remade.

Gremlins, by far. I could never picture Gizmo, Stripe, or any of the other mogwai/gremlins in CGI. It would destroy the charm and personalities of the characters, particularly Gizmo. People connected to him the same way they did to E.T. They weren't just soulless monsters, they were living, breathing creatures with personalities and emotions.

Besides the title characters, I can't imagine any actors/actresses playing the roles of the Peltzers (especially Billy and Rand), Kate, and Mr. Futterman as well as the originals. Axton was perfect for the character of Rand Peltzer. He really got into his role and it's a shame we don't have many actors like him around anymore.

The one I fear most, whick AFAIK hasn't yet been considered, would be a Breakfast Club remake.

Of all the 80s classics, I really shudder when I think about what they would do with this one.

Can you imagine The Breakfast Club : An Original Disney Movie, Zac Efron as Andy, or Selena Gomez as Allison?

Actually there is no movies that I can think of from the seventies through the mid nineties that would be good as a remake. I think, your just never going to do better than you did with the first casts.

However films in the 2000's could be remade with better scripts, and old actors.

What movies nowadays would you remake in the eighties. Meaning, take an 2000 whatever film and bring it back to the 80's, where you can cast anyone in the part?

I have been pleased by some remakes and others I wish they would have left alone. Any movie can be remade to be better if you actually put the time and money into making it a great film. Though I must admit that a remake of E.T. would probably kill it for everyone who sawe it at the theaters.

I know I may get lambasted for this but I actually enjoy remakes of classics. I think it's a good thing! It brings attention to the original movies that may never have been discovered by younger generations. Usually the remakes pale in comparison to the orginal but so what. It does not ruin the orginal, that movie is still there, the same as it's always been.

I think movies that have special effects are ones that are easier to look at remaking. So scifi and horror tend to fit well for remakes. I enjoyed the twists in the remake of Halloween. I think as long as you can look at it as a seperate movie then what's the harm? Maybe I'm selfish and maybe I want more of my favorites but I'm always up for more.

The types of movies I don't think should be redone are movies that were made by the actors or a performance. I think those are the tough ones tinker with. But when the main character is a man behind a mask it's pretty easy to do it again.

Bring on the sequels, bring on the remakes, I'm all for it!

One that could be made? And maybe, because of the dated effects, should be made?

Good one, Paul.

The original Last Starfighter is a good movie with charming old school fx.
It´s a nice story and a remake could gain some new fans.

I probably wouldn´t watch it though [Smile]

Why not just do a redux of the The Last Starfighter and take all the old effects out and replace with new ones. That way you leave all the original actors.

gordon i agree the remakes dont affect the orignals.

i just dont see how you can do escape any better or conan, i guess there are more adventures for conan post barbarian. but to me its lack of creativity and someone trying to cash in on fan favorites

That would be pretty cool to try to just spice up the special effects but keep everything the same. Would be interesting.

The Good Package, I agree, there is a total lack of creativity out there by the big wigs. I feel like it's so hard for new film makers to get on the big screen and those are probably the people who could bring some freshness to the industry. I feel like the music industry has felt the backlash of the "big studio acts" and now it seems like there is a lot more opportunity for true musicians. I do see that trending for movies a little too. Sorry to get way off track.

As for you other question, didn't you like the idea for Connan the Librarian....."Don't you know the dewy decimal system!"

Arnold Schwarzenegger is The Composer

He travelled forward in time, bringing with him nothing but an ornate wig and a sheaf of blank music script paper. His mission : to prevent Justin Bieber from being born. He writes songs for the Harpsichord, and he will not stop....

There once was a man named Ghandi,
Who went into the pub for a shandy,
With his great loin-cloth
He wiped off the froth,
And the Barman said "My, but that's handy!"

Sometimes you just shouldn't mess with the classics! Of course all of our 80s favorites are classics and we would not be happy with any kind of remake what so ever! No remakes and no sequels....just no!

As for remakes, I do not think that any movie should be denied the opportunity of a remake. People who say that they hate or love remakes are victims of very all or nothing type thinking thinking. Some remakes are very poor, some are ok and some are very good. Just like some original movies are very poor, some are ok and soem are very good.

I for one welcome any remake with an open mind and then judge it on its merit once I have seen it...and NOT before.
