A young inductee into the military is given the task of looking after some chimpanzees
used in the mysterious "Project X".
Getting to know the chimps fairly well, he begins to suspect
there is more to the secret project than he is being told. (IMDb)

Project X is a pretty good chimp drama/thriller with some comedic elements in the beginning of the movie.
It was directed by Jonathan Kaplan (The Accused, Unlawful Entry)
and written by Lawrence Lasker (WarGames) with Stanley Weiser (Wall Street).
Starring Matthew Broderick, Helen Hunt and William Sadler who all did good work
but the chimps are the real stars.

Peter Gabriel tune "Shock the Monkey" was a fitting opening credits song.

The Project X dvd was released in 2005 but it seems to be OOP.

All Broderick fans should check it out.

Another one that was well-promoted back in the day but has been largely forgotten!

I can only vaguely recall this one, but I think I enjoyed it.

It is pretty well done. Broderick shines as always, and you do end up feeling genuine sympathy for the chimps going through what they do.
