"I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick a$$.... and I'm all out of bubblegum."

That line will forever go down in 80's history as a classic movie quote(click on it to see scene on YouTube).

They Live - Rewind Review

I'm not gonna go into a detailed description here, you can read the Rewind Review for that, but who would have thought that a pair of sunglasses could save the world? This John Carpenter classic is so entertaining and fun to watch. Piper exhibits a stellar performance as Nada the drifter, who is just looking for work, and becomes the savior. One of the best fight scenes ever can be seen here. How cool was that? So many awesome and funny quotes are in this movie too! Like this scene! One of the funniest ever.

This is a must own for 80's fans!

Great flick, really a sci-fi satire based on reality and an insight into what "They" would like us to become.

'Rowdy' Roddy Piper was surprisingly good, and Keith David is always a safe bet. If they reamde this today I'd cast Dwayne Johnson as Nada, Wesley Snipes as Frank and Natasha Henstridge as Holly Thompson OR go a completely different way: Antonio Banderas as Nada, Freddie Rodreguiz as Frank and Rebecca Rojimin as Holly Thompson.

You may already know this, but Ray Nelson; who wrote the short story ('Eight O'Clock in the Morning') upon which 'They Live' is based, invented the propeller beanie hat!

Devolution here,

Got it the day I bought a DVD player. I think I spent 30 dollars on it in 1999.

Hahaha! The woman deserved it. Her "apology" was insincere and snooty. [Big Grin]

Always one of my favorites! I love the fight scene.

"I'm giving you a choice: either put on these glasses or start eatin' that trash can."

I love it when Nada (Roddy) looks at the person next to him and says: "You, you're okay. This one: real freakin' ugly." hahaha

Meg Foster was Holly.... I was just 12 in '88, but even then I was mesmerized by her eyes!

To this day, I still go to every flea market and rummage shop, looking for the right sunglasses. I know they are out there.

given that I was already a Piper fan from his role in the WWF, it was a shoe-in that this would go on to become one of my favorite Sci-fi flicks from my youth. I love how Piper had to play an action lead, but he still managed to add a bit of his trademark goofiness to the role. Those that were familiar with his antics in the WWF back then though should know that his comedic performance in this film was nothing compared to what he did in the wrestling world. Such as the time at Wrestlemania 7, (i think that's the right one), where he came out with half his body painted black to fight Bad News Brown. Definitely one of the funnier moments in WWF history. But anyway, this is definitely a good movie well worth the effort of hunting down if you have not seen.

Watch the scene where he delivers the classic quote, it literally makes no sense! He just says it out of the blue!

Never liked this one. Guess I would classify this as late Carpenter (Big Trouble being the cut-off) And im more a fan of early Carpenter.
