I just watched this movie. I liked it. It was cute. It made ya think being a Vampire might not be so bad. I have never seen Robert Sean Leonard in anything else either, he played "Jeremy".

This movie felt like if they put Once Bitten and Risky Buisness in a blender, this is what you could come up with.

The only parts I didn't like, was when he took the steak and blended it in the blender, or drank blood- even though I know that it wasn't "real"...I can't watch people drink gross stuff- just like in Urban Cowboy-I still can't watch Scott Glenn eat that worm, and I can not watch people drink a raw egg- I can remember several movies where people did that-Angel and Rocky and the Neverending Story had some egg drinkers in them, and that grosses me out.

I like the song: I gotta wear Shades...that played in My Best Friend is a Vampire.

I love the House at the beginning of the movie, I love cool old houses in movies.

What did anyone else think of it??

It was pretty much a average comedy.....I'll give it a 5 on a scale of 1-10 [Big Grin] [Smile]

There sure are a few Vampire Comedy Movies from the '80s.

I just looked Robert Sean Leonard up, apparently he did alot of movies, including The Dead Poets Society-which I have never seen ever.

He is in a TV series now called House, MD.

I think I saw that previewed last night, it looked awful, in the previews.

He made a good Vampire, he was too skinny, and was really pale, and had some major eyebrow issues happening, so I guess he really fit the part.

I liked the guy who played his friend in the movie, something about him reminded me of Lou Ferrigno.

I wouldn't say it was a classic, but it was entertaining, and I made it through it.

Fannie Flagg played his mom, I just remember her from being on Match Game all the time, and she was the nurse in Grease.

That movie was ok, but I much prefer Once Bitten with Jim Carrey. That movie was so corny but still, I love it!

I really really love MBFIAV. Robert Sean Leonard was really great. I liked that he went for the nerdy girl. Good for him. Now I want an artic blue BMW.

Once Bitten with Jim Carrey is way better, but this movie isn't bad. I thought Robert Sean Leonard and Jim Carrey looked alot alike in these movies.

Robert Sean Leonard was excellent in "Deat Poets Society". My favorite RSL movie is called "Swing Kids" about a close-knit group of young kids in Nazi Germany who listen to banned swing music from the US. Did anyone see this movie?

You know ISIS, it is funny you should mention this film, because it is one of my favorites from the eighties, or any time really. In fact, it was during my search for this film that I happened upon the Rewind. It was a movie I saw long ago on Comedy Central, and never heard from again. It took me forever to find it because I was searching under "My Best Friend's a Vampire," instead of "My Best Friend is a Vampire." It was also released under the title "I Was a Teenage Vampire," in case you're interested. So, while searching for it, this website came up, and the rest is Rewind History. Sort of like "Serendipity," huh?

I have to say, I didn't have high expectations for this one but I was happily surprised [Smile] ! Not bad at all! Glad I finally got around to seeing it. I might purchase it for future viewings...I have a few questions though, which I could research but I'll leave it to you guys first...

The character Ralph...was he in Stand By Me? He looks familiar...Also the girl who played Darla Blake, I know I've seen her before...what else has she been in?

Oh and the other thing that occurred to me while watching this was that the whole vampire phenomenon that is going on right now with Twilight, True Blood, etc., isn't really a new thing...the 80's gave us:

Fright Night
Vamp
My Best Friend Is A Vampire
Once Bitten
Silver Bullet (okay, I know, Werewolves but close enough)

Am I missing any others?

This was a pretty good movie.
It was called I Was a Teenage Vampire here.
I may have to rewatch it one of these days...

near dark is another 80s vampire flick...more serious than some of the others mentioned, but a good movie, IMO.

More 80's vampire flicks:
Fright Night 2, a middling sequel;
The Hunger, good-looking, like a Tresor perfume commercial, but with a great scene between Catherin Deneuve and Susan Sarandon;
Momma Dracula, saw it completely drunk, no recollection;
The Lost Boys, kewl-enough 80's movie;
Vampire's Kiss, Nic Cage's funniest, most out-of-control performance;
Monster Squad, nothing more needs to said here for present company; and (drum roll, please)...

Lifeforce, a guilty pleasure of mine. Yes, I know Mathilda May, the naked girl alien, was from space, but she was a vampire, and the novel that the movie was adapted from was called "Space Vampires."
