Hey guys...I know with a bit of time I could figure this out for myself via the internet, but I know there are some experts here that would know off hand. Just wondering:

I find it hard to keep track of the Zombie movies, more particularly, witch ones are connected or are sequels, ie Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, etc Can anybody help...and...what are the must have Zombie movies...I already own Night of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons, Dawn of the Dead (2007), and 28 Days Later. Thanks.

Night of the Living Dead (1968) Dawn of the Dead (1978) Day of the Dead (1985)

Return of the Living Dead (1985) Return of the Living Dead part II (1988)

 - -

And the more serious Return of the Living Dead part III (1993)

There are sequels made for the Romero flicks
and the Living Dead flicks in the 00´s
but i´ve heard that those are pretty bad.
Anyone seen those?

there are "remakes" of dawn of the dead and day of the dead that a lot of people don't like, but being a zombie movie fan, i tend to like them. [Smile]

Thanks Ronnie...I'll definitely check it out. Actually just looking at one of my DVDs from my pile that i didn't realize I had, it's called "Zombies - The Living Dead" and is a compilation of six different movies...Night of the Living Dead, King of the Zombies, Revolt of the Zombies, White Zombie, Dead Men Walk, and Teenage Zombies. Pretty sure I got it at the Dollar Store...should keep me bust for a while. * The zombie movies really creep me out...more so than the typical slasher flicks and ghostie kind of stuff...

There are so many great Zombie movies out there and aTomik pretty much listed my top six all in a row, but there are many, many others that are great for other reasons.

If you are looking for just a linear track of what belongs with what from George A. Romero, it would go like this:

Night of the Living Dead - Classic
Dawn of the Dead - Awesome..the very pinnacle!
Day of the Dead - Cool. Twisted. Bub. [Eek!]
(20 year break)
Land of the Dead - Strong movie. Dennis Hopper.
Diary of the Dead - Literally unwatchable.

The encapsulate kind of the core Romero stuff. Certainly there are remakes, adaptations, etc. All good fun, who doesn't love a zombie movie this time of year?

For some great stuff off the beaten path, check out:
Night of the Comet
The Serpent and the Rainbow
Zombieland

i know a lot of people hated diary of the dead. it was a bit hard to watch but i still found it to be ok. it's romero.
i know he's working on a new one, can't remember the name.

zombieland was a good, funny movie. but didn't have a lot of focus on the zombies, imo. i enjoyed shaun of the dead way more.

Besides the original Romero series (and the remakes of Night and Dawn), I'd also recommend all of these:

The Crazies (1973)
Shivers (a.k.a. They Came from Within) (1975)
Rabid (1977)
Zombie (a.k.a. Zombi 2) (1979)
City of the Living Dead (1980)
Nightmare City (a.k.a. City of the Walking Dead) (1980)
Dead & Buried (1981)
Night of the Comet (1984)
C.H.U.D. (1984)
Re-Animator (1985)
The Stuff (1985)
Return of the Living Dead (1985)
Night of the Creeps (1986)
Return of the Living Dead Part II (1988)
The Serpent and the Rainbow (1988)
Bride of Re-Animator (1990)
Dead Alive (a.k.a. Braindead) (1992)
Return of the Living Dead 3 (1993)
Cemetery Man (a.k.a. Dellamorte Dellamore)
28 Days Later (2002)
Resident Evil (2002)
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
I Am Legend (2007)
[Rec] (2007)
Zombieland (2009)

I was at a second hand store today with my wife looking for a Halloween costum, and they had a rack full of DVDs. Coincidentally, the very first movie was The Return of the Living Dead...so I scooped it for $4...second hand, but just like new. Neat that I never seen this movie in stores around here...I talk about it with you guys...then I find it the next day. We should talk about more movies to see if it happens again...maybe i have a magic computer? Also got Sleepaway Camp 2, and Dragnet.

Dawn of the Dead (1979) THE zombie movie.
It had such an impact on me when i first watched it like no other movie ever has, and probably ever will. Hard to explain but many seem to have had the same experience.
I spent many a school hour day dreaming about that happening and how cool it would be..
As a die hard of the original I actually liked the remake. I just watch it up until it goes A Team then switch off, problem solved.

Actually, unlike Ronnie ...I prefer the original "Night of the Living Dead" over the Tony Todd remake. I always felt the black & white picture of the original added to its incredible creepiness.

"Return of the Living Dead" is my fav though! James Karen is hilarious and part of it was filmed in my homestate of Kentucky. Bonus points

"One question, Frank... This guy screaming in here, you sure it's a dead cadaver?"

Thanks for all the responses guys. I've recently seen Night of the Living Dead 3-D in a discount bin for $2.99...I shamefully passed it up. Huge error...or...great choice! * I know you're thinking $2.99...why didn't you just buy it and see for yourself...but my movie buying sprees lately have been out of control....plus...my wife was with me...can't buy DVDs and sneek them in the house when she's right there! The original Night of the Living Dead is in the public domain, so there are literally hundreds of different DVD releases which vary in quality greatly. Some of them are mastered from 10th generation prints, some are colorized, some have bad 3-D effects applied after-the-fact, etc. Don't just go and buy one willy nilly or you might end up finding the dialog incomprehensible or the picture unbearable to watch. If you're serious, these are the only ones worth considering:

2008 Weinstein Company
 -

2008 Legend Films (Colorized & Original Restored B&W)
 -

2002 Elite Entertainment Millennium Collection Edition
 -

1997 Elite Entertainment Special Collector's Edition
