Sad Hughes didn't want some kind of comeback. I genuinely thought he and Molly would one day work again.

Pretty good article; wistful recollection & emotional sincerity. I don't read the NY Times but do they always put the writer's profession at the end? If not, then the words 'Molly Ringwald is an actress' only serves to highlight her virtual obscurity post 80's.

Hughes and his actors all wanted to do other roles, or in the director's case; explore different narrative styles. I think studio interference stymied & embittered John to some degree, Molly Ringwald and others deciding to try other avenues only compounded the frustration. It's a shame really; for neither John Hughes nor his actors achieved the same quality of work apart, as they did together.

Very nicely written article. It's a shame he was so reclusive in the end... [Frown]
