Pretty good indeed. About a decade ago, I happened to be at the same location in the Bahamas where they shot the oceanic scenes. The entire cast delivers quite strongly, the love story is convincing enough to draw you in, and the humor is great ("The Statue of Liberty was a gift to us from the French,...bringing hope to naked women everywhere...(OH MY GOD!!!!)"). It still ranks among Ron Howard's best, and has aged quite well. It's just disappointing neither Hanks nor Candy did anything else for Disney until the mid 90s, for their talents could have done well in many of the live actions spectacles the company put out later in the decade (Candy did in fact have a contract, but as is standard procedure in a Hollywood regime change, the Eisner-Wells team promptly threw all the Ron Miller-era contracts right out the window when they were in place at the top. Oh well, at least by signing on for The Rescuers Down Under, he added his legacy to the Great American Storytelling Tradition, as it really is. And I've gone way off the tracks now...).

I remember seeing Splash in the theater back in 1984 with my older sister. Not only was Tom Hanks funny but we can't forget the late John Candy.
