If anyone can help with the name of this 80s movie I will be eternally grateful. My memory is rather hazy, but there are a few key details which should be enough for anyone who's seen it.

It's about a boy who moves to a new school and falls in love with a pretty girl when he accidentally knocks her lunch tray over in the cafeteria. They go on a date, but her jock ex-boyfriend (who is captain of the breakdancing squad) finds out and after a lengthy skateboard chase, the boy is caught and beaten up. From what I can remember he gets pretty upset, but then out of the blue, a UFO crash lands in his back yard and he ends up making friends with a stranded alien. Together, the unusual duo plot revenge on the bully and using a mishmash of old arcade games and kitchen appliances, they manage to hack into a NASA computer where they gain access to a top secret military robot called (I think) B.R.I.A.N. Unfortunately, the army find out about their missing robot and deploy an assortment of jeeps, helicopters and FBI cars to track it down. The boy, the alien and the robot are forced to flee on BMXs but are caught and taken to a secure storage facility at NASA for tests. They escape and are picked up by the alien's UFO (now working) which takes them home in time for the boy to beat the bully in the school breakdancing championship.

As I recall, the boy wears Nike trainers throughout and at one point there's a scene in a McDonald's.

Any ideas?

No ideas?

There's another film that's been bugging me for a while. Here's what I remember:

Thee boys are good friends with a crazy old inventor and regularly go over to his laboratory after school to mess about with his harebrained inventions (which never work) but mainly to play on an arcade game he has called 'StarFighters' or 'GalaxyInvaders' or something.

One night they all get radioed on their walkie talkies with a message telling them to get on over to the lab ASAP. They 3 boys sneak out of their respective bedroom windows and ride on over to the lab on BMXs in the dead of night with a big storm brewing.

Inside, they begin playing on the arcade game while they wait for the wild crazy inventor who suddenly appears in a very excited state. He's wired because he's just invented an 'actualizing' device which he demonstrates by clipping two wires onto an advert for a chocolate bar then firing up the power. There is a flash of light and a real chocolate bar has appeared. (I think the storm outside had got pretty bad by now) They repeat the same on a car advert and a real car appears in the lab! (I think it was a Ferrari) They're all very excited now and put down the two wires on the arcade game while they try to decide what to make next. Suddenly a massive flash of lightening strikes the house causing a power surge and the boys find themselves transported into the world of the computer game where they befriend some strange but lovable Jim Henson alien puppets which they help defeat an evil tyrant bloke by piloting space fighters exactly as in the arcade game.

Sorry to be so vague. Any thoughts on what either of these two films might be?

Sounds a mish-mash of several films into one plot. Kid knocking over the school food tray of the girl he likes has been used in many 80s films. Even recently in Spider-Man. And, as usual, the girl has a jealous jock befriend who beats up the kid just because he feels like it. The crashed UFO sounds like "The Navigator" movie, especially the Time Travel part. Also reminds me of "The Explorers" and "E.T.", this more so in regards to fleeing on BMXs from the FBI. But the breakdancing bit is definitely odd. I thought, at first, you were talking about "Mac and Me", but that is definitely not the case. I would really like to know the name of this film now. It has me intrigued. Same goes for the second film you mentioned. That one sounds like a mix of "The Explorers", "Willie Wonka" (the chocolate bar actualization), TRON and "The Last Starfighter".

It sounds a bit like the movie DRAYL to me, who is a miltary project - super intelligence to me. Although it could be that movie with an alien family who drive away in a pink caddy at the end???

Sorry Kissmad. I hadn't seen all these replies.

I'm ashamed to say that I've got an even bigger matter to apologize for. Neither of the two films exists.

They were 'humorous' attempts to create the most 80s films possible by mashing together some of the biggest cliches. I assumed that they were so outlandish, that this would be obvious, (seriously - skatebording, breakdancing, BMX's, robots and UFOs in the same film?) but it seems that i didn't go far enough [Big Grin]

Sorry for wasting people's time. I guess it wasn't all that amusing after all.

I think I should be forced to do some unpleasant and menial task here on the forum as penance. Either that or you can throw stones at me.

Someone really ought to make those films though [Big Grin]

This wasn't some 'April fools' type joke in which I deliberately attempted to deceive people. I honestly thought the films were so obviously made up that no one could possibly take it seriously.

Again, I'm very sorry if I wasted anyone's time.

Cool. Thank you wonderful irewinders.

Now if you could just help me identify the following film...

A small LA aerobics class finds itself in dire financial straights when the hall they use for their classes is about to be bought by evil corporate developers and turned into a state of the art games arcade. The valley girl teacher (played, if I remember correctly, by Jennifer Beals) travels cross country to New York, and enters the national aerobics championships in order to win the $15,000 they need to buy the hall.

At first the ditzy LA girl is like a fish out of water in cosmopolitan Manhattan, and completely embarrasses herself in front of a handsome Wall Street trader played by ... errr Harrison Ford. I think what happens next, is that she meets a once great aerobics teacher (Jamie Lee Curtis) who has been badly injured and forced into retirement.

Jamie agrees to help Jennifer and by day puts her through a grueling training session with lots of musical montages (I think this mainly involves her making endless cups of coffee, and it turns out that the actions involved in making the coffee are actually aerobics exercises: "Spoon in. Spoon Out" , "Stir the Coffee" , "Pour the milk" etc etc.

At night, Jamie gives Jennifer a make over, gets rid of her perm, and turns her into a sophisticated Manhattanite, so that she can woo the Wall Street guy.

Errr then a spaceship lands, someone rides around on a BMX, and they all go to MacDonalds.

Any ideas?
