I was watching Lethal Weapon on DVD tonight... the Director's Cut, and it is so bizarre to see scenes from a movie that were not on the one you've been watching forever.

There's a sniper scene, where a guy is shooting at an elementary school full of kids, and Mel Gibson walks right on to the playground...and the guy is shooting at him and never hits him, and Mel shoots him a billion times through the window.

Then there's a scene where Mel is in the camper and he puts his foot through the TV...then later he brings a new TV home and feeds his dog a sandwich.

There's a scene with Dan Glover at the target range thing...

and it's like watching a totally different movie, but there they are looking exactly the same as the rest of the movie...it is so weird to know stuff is out there that we have never seen....and never even knew it existed.

A lot of the time when you watch a Directors cut or deleted scenes on a dvd you can see exactly why they were left out of the original in the first place.

The Special Edition of "The Abyss" is like what Isis and Stitch are saying. There are an additional 28 minutes of footage that the director intended for the original movie that was cut out by the studio. It definitely made the movie more understandable with the footage added back in.

I rank "The Abyss" and "Explorers" as movie that I totally enjoyed about the first half the movie, but was disappointed once they had their "close encounter". Both good movies that bordered on the edge of greatness.

The director's cut of "Bladerunner" is excellent as well, though it changes the whole movie a bit.

I can see why they deleted some of the scenes, and that is the cool part about editing, knowing when to leave stuff and what to throw out....the sniper scene was kind of intense, and it was totally unbelievable... as if Mel Gibson is completely invincible....He's standing right in the middle of the open playground, and the guy is shooting within inches from him and never hits him, but it was so weird to see it.

The part that was also weird...is there's a scene where Danny Glover and Mel are walking to Danny's car...and Danny says "hey, I heard about what you did yesterday, that was pretty heroic"....

and I always thought he was talking about the drug dealer scene....and I always thought that wasn't heroic...that was actually kind of stupid, and it was one of those things you'd think Danny Glover would have thought so too....

but, now I know he was talking about the school incident.

Unfortunately sometimes yo watch deleted scenes with commentary and the director says how hard it was to cut but had to be done due to studio pressure....if the studio hire a guy to make a film then for god's sake let him make it...unless they are looking to make a special edition later on which also sucks...

Noms [Cool]

ps Abyss and Aliens are my fave director's cut DVD's.

I saw another piece that was cut out of Lethal Weapon.

It is a scene where Mel Gibson picks up a hooker on the corner, after leaving Danny Glover's house..after they had dinner...and he gives her $100 to come home and watch the Three Stooges with him.

I actually am glad that was cut out. I liked him being a loner in Lethal Weapon...and they didn't hook him up with a woman in it...which was surprising.

Yeah, but surely paying a hooker $100 to go watch The Three Stooges is very much in character for Riggs.....
