I must admit I have never seen this movie. It's not available on DVD and will be hard to score, but first tell me if I'll really like this movie before I start my Modern Girls vision quest.

Btw, if it's totally a Chick Flick, stop me now. [Razz] [Smile]

Chick flicks aren't that bad, but that's besides the point. From what I remember, the movie was a great snapshot of the style and sounds of mid-80s California. That would probably be the appeal right there.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

I have it you goof...if your really really nice to me...I might let ya borrow it.

Once was enough for me. I liked it, but Clayton Rohner plays 2 people...and him as a rock star is a little strange, and the way he acts is goofy.

I think Valley Girl is right along the lines of it...so if you love that like you do...I think you'd like this one...it seems to be up your alley, Valley- . [Razz] [Wink] [Big Grin]

P.S. That picture could be Muffy, Me and Cindy- in that order in that picture...those are kind of our personalities.

MODERN GIRLS ws a movie I wanted to love but couldn't. I really like all three of the actresses in it. They deserved a better movie.
The fashions are great though (Love Daphne zunigas blue gloves!) and the soundtrack has a few good songs, but aside from that i cant highly recommend it.

I know Cindy Mancini loves this one. I bought it when we had our video raid last year. I watched some of it....and never returned to watch it. Cindy sent me the sdtrk....which I must agree is awesome! I just need to finish watching the movie itself. [Big Grin]

See...that is the 3 of us...we are modern girls who are stuck in the 80's...does that make sense...Does the picture seem kind of eerie...after you see the picture of those 3...then you see us 3 in the video store...and Muffy is holding that movie in her hand!! Weird.

Cindy...Have you watched Illegally Yours yet???? I keep wanting to ask you if it was any good...and if it is...I want to borrow it...I have never seen it.

Unfortunately, none of the movies you guys were holding was "The Hugga Bunch"!

There goes that hugga bunch thing again--hehe

I do not think that I have totally seen all of this movie. I remember bits and pieces of it, but I don't think I have actually seen the whole thing.

Oh you guys have to see Illegally Yours, Rob Lowe at his best as a big nerd!!

It's a fun movie, while I admit some of it could have been better, the fashions, the music and the nightlife make up for some plot lapses. And Madsen, Zuniga, Gibb and Rohner all were involved in other favorite 80's movies of mine around the time period this came out.

I made a New Year's Resolution to seek out some "hidden gem" 80's movies in 2006. Call it Awesome Valley Karma...I have it ya know...but I got up this morning and playing on Encore is the movie "Modern Girls". wow..what a cute movie.

I've always been a fan of Clayton Rohner from movies like "April Fool's Day" and "Just One Of The Guys". This dude definitely gave Ronald Miller a run for Cindy Mancini's money in the "Geek To Sheek" competition of 80's movies. He played a dual role in "Modern Girls", but his Bruno X was a perfect offset to Cliffy.

The Modern Girls themselves gave great performances, is that the same girl that was infatuated with Louden Swain...Yowzaa she really grew up. I was never a Virgina Madsen fan in the 80's, but this movie and "Fire With Fire" has impactfully changed my opinion. With that said, my favorite Modern Girl was CeCe because she brought the 80's attitude to the club scene.

I totally agree with Riptide about the fact the movie could have a little bit better plot. But the 80's style and outstanding music more than made up for it. If you haven't checked out the website in the first posting above, you definitely should. [Cool]

yay! i am glad you saw it!

the music definitely is awesome in this movie. i have caught it a couple of times on encore love channel.

i too, never liked madsen (except in fire with fire). but i agree, cece (gibb) was cute as can be.

hey val, did you notice pamela springstein (sister of the boss himself, bruce) in this one? she was the drugged-out red head in the pool bar with kelly. she was also in those sleepaway camp flicks....

Cece(Gibb) was the best and most chipper of the girls. Not sure if she did much after this movie, but I did like her a lot in Youngblood with Rob Lowe. If they can put something like the Party Animal on DVD, then they surely can do it for Modern Girls.

NowhereGirl, I noticed her name in the credits, but I didn't know that was the Bosses Sister. I love trivia like that!

Yay Valley! I'm glad you finally found this one! I'll tell ya, the first time I watched it I wasn't that impressed but then I watched it again and it grew on me. The girls were all likable in their own way and the music was just awesome. I was lucky enough to find a copy of the vinyl LP on Ebay and I had it transferred to cd. It was the only way to get the song "Girls Night Out" by Toni Basil of "Micki" fame. There was another song I really liked in the film called "Passion." It's playing during the scene where Virginia Madsen is at the club in her pretty pink dress and she's making out with the idiot DJ dude who won't take off his headphones. He was also in Casual Sex as the guy Lea Thompson hooks up with and then dumps. Just some trivia for you [Smile] !

P.S. Clayton did look mighty fine as Bruno X. Now that's some Billy Idol inspiration at it's best!
