I just finished watching Perfect (1985) for the first time in many years. I liked it a lot. It gets so much crap from people all the time. I don't know what they were expecting. It's not An Officer And A Gentleman but it plays well. Any movie with Berlin music in it (Masquerade) can't be all bad! Plus Marilu Henner running around in tight workout clothes.....Woooooo!!!;-)

What do you all think of this one?

And here I come along being the spoil sport calling it crap. :-) I will grudgingly admit that it does get a bad rap: It's not nearly as bad as "Moment by Moment," but it's certainly a contender for worst John Travolta movie of that era. And has any actor in movie history had more ups and downs? You have his TV career. His ascension to greatness with "Saturday Night Fever," "Urban Cowboy," and "Grease." His fall from grace with stuff like "Perfect," then comeback #1 with "Look Who's Talking." Then he falls off the map again, only to be rescued by Tarantino for comeback #2, which he parlayed for awhile, settling upon playing a bunch of over-the-top, hammy villains. Now in the "Old Dogs" era, he's sliding once more. Someone get this guy a new agent! Fast!

Perfect is a great movie!

I like Travolta and Curtis very much and the soundtrack is fantastic.
I love those loooong health club scenes, that fashion just rocks [Smile]

And i think we can all agree that Marilu is supersexy [Cool]

This is one of those movies that whenever it pops up on TV my husband will watch it and I'll say "How can you watch that crappy movie?" Hahaha. I swear he only watches it to see women in unitards.

Marilu Henner always had such a knock out figure. I remember a few years ago I bought one of her books and nI said "whatever Marilu says I will do" . Well, Marilu is one of those serious serious SERIOUS health food people. I love her but I threw that book away with haste! If THATS what it takes to look like Marilu Hener then I'll just stay fat!

I'm not going to say that "Perfect" is a great movie, but I do think it is better than the image most people have of it. I've always enjoyed John Travolta and Jamie Lee Curtis movies and like mamamiasweetpeaches's husband.. I've never had an issue watching finely toned women aerobisizing to killer tunes. Maybe that's just me though?

Anyway.. not a movie I own, but if I saw it on tv on a Sunday afternoon .. I might just watch it.

haha it's a great movie for a time warp.......Jamie Lee is pretty awesome in it too. Honestly I always laugh at the workout gear from the 80's...belts and leg warmers? highheels haha......shiny spandex?? it had to have been constricting and hot? [Smile]

Devolution here,

I always catch the movie in the same exact spot when she is writing the story. It's never been something that I have needed to see. And whenever I think of gyms for some reason I think to Armed and Dangerous.

I made a third attempt to watch this the other night and only got so far but what I did see was rather shocking! The gym scene with Jamie Lee & John Travolta was downright obscene!! HAHA!

My jaw was on the floor as I watched them "sexercize" for what felt like an uncomfortably long amount of time. Travolta in those grey shorts was a bit much and Jamie Lee, well, I think she had the body of a Barbie doll...meaning she looked like hard, molded plastic from the waist down. There was nothing underneath her leotard...I'm convinced.

Perhaps I'll finish this one out tonight...wow!

I don't know.. that scene is way awkward and creepy.. I remember the first time I watched it just going .. are you serious? please stop.. you are traumatizing me and ruining my cool image of you dude.

And it's the 80's Travolta.. how could you not have sported a snazzy workout attire for this movie?

With that said.. other than the scene mentioned.. I actually enjoy "Perfect" and recommend it Ronster! Please just do one of your infamous "Grease 2" fastforwards on that scene above though.

Wait.. why did you just send me a message asking if I knew if your remote had a slo-mo button? [Wink]

Another one that manages to be So Bad It's Good, that messes up so much for all the reasons mentioned so far in this thread that it becomes perversely entertaining, if only to watch the actors make fools of themselves with questionable material.

in the 80s I used to go to ballet classes at this community center and they'd have jazzercise in the room before us and I just loved to watch them dance.......it was like a rated G Perfect [Smile]

I love the end with the credits and everyone dancing with the appropriate shot on them........it's awesome cheese and I love Johnny T I can't wait to see what Vern and Ronnie think? I've been begging Cindy to watch it forever!

I vaguely remember that this was expected to be a hit... and wasn't. It was the final nail in Travolta's leading man status after 'Staying Alive' and 'Two of a Kind'.

John used to keep his hotdog warm by carrying it in his shorts as the picture above demonstrates.

Easy... Danny Zuko is a journalist, and he sees Laurie Strode and... umm... there's some excercising... they... ummmm...

Cindy's asking for help people!

"There's some exercising...they...ummmmm..."

Bewildered, I got up to clean my bathroom, came back 30 minutes later, and they were still exercising. And then the movie ends. I think that pretty much sums it up. [Smile]

Since we've done a "best of the 80s," someone should start a "worst of the 80s" poll. "Perfect" is right up--or down--there with "Ishtar," "Rhinestone," and "The Pirate Movie." [Smile]
