Can anyone remember any famous 80s dogs? I can only think of K-9 and Hooch (Turner and Hooch). I thought that maybe Beethoven or Digby (The World's Largest Dog) might count as well, however I have later found that these dogs were from the 90s and 70s respectively.

Just thought this might be fun. Was thinking at the weekend, 'cause Turner and Hooch was one of the Easter Weekend films.

[Cool]

Fog-80 asked:
quote:
Can anyone remember any famous 80s dogs?
(1.) Can't remember the dog's name, but it was in the movie "Down & Out In Beverly Hills" (1986). The dog that belonged to a homeless Nick Nolte in the beginning, and then decides to desert him. The dog stole the show from Nolte, Richard Dreyfuss, and Bette Midler...not an easy feat!

(2.) "Oh, Heavenly Dog!" (1980), was the third of the "Benji" series that began in the mid-70's. It starred Chevy Chase. The dog's actual name was Higgins. This movie was followed by...

(3.) "Benji, The Hunted" (1987). The fourth (and last) one of the "Benji" films.

(4.) "Dogs In Space", an Australian film from 1987. About the early days of the Russian space program, when dogs were being used in experimental projects, such as the dog Laika inside the Sputnik satellite.

There has to be more, but that's all I can think for now (especially at 1:00 in the morning!).

"Dogs in Space"? Didn't that have Michael Hutchence in it?

He's a bit odd isn't he? What a way to go?

Anyway, v.impressed with your doggy knowledge. What about other animals?

Yes, DOGS IN SPACE did have Michael Hutchence in it....and no dogs!!!! I have the VHS, being an Aussie, it is one of my favourite movies. I actually knew several people like the ones in this film, it was extremely real and deals with homeless adolescents and the drug culture of the 80's. Sorry to crash your doggy-question, couldn't resist a chance to rave about a cool 80's film from my homeland. Can't even think of a famous pooch to make up for my rudeness! Sorry. WAIT......what about NANOOK from Lost Boys! Am I forgiven???? [Roll Eyes]

Spuds McKenzie - the "Original Party Animal".. certainly I'm not the only one here who remembers Spuds.. I'm only 19 and he's forever engrained in my memory..

and wow.. that original plot summary given for "Dogs in Space" couldn't have been more wrong (as its a drugs/social outcast movie).. is there actually a movie that exists about the use of dogs in the Russian space program or were you completely joking?

It was Mike the Dog in Down and Out....

Big one for me of course would be Einstein from BTTF.

Ebuzz from Poltergeist.

Buck from Married with Children.

Wondermutt from Summer School.

Snot from Christmas Vacation. A word of warning though. If he does lay into ya, it's best to just let him finish.

The Russells' Percy, who makes for a nice kind-of sidekick for Buck

And of course the Bueller's Doberman, ever on guard to defend the house against intruders....

Your dog kinda reminds me of the cartoon character Droopy. I used to laugh so much at that cartoon.

I believe the dog from Vacation was called Dinky..he also watches Family Feud...well he did before the dog killer got to him.

Uncle Buck: How many times would you feed a dog like that?....How many times a day do you think he eats?....4 or 5....classic!

Wasn't Bueller's dog a Rottweiler? It looks ultra psychotic when it sees Rooney and starts drooling at the mouth.
