I just saw The Last Starfighter on cable recently for the first time in a looooong time. (One of my favorites growing up.) I have a question that I've always wondered about.....
In the movie, you only see Alex's mom as the only active parent in the household. Later, when Alex is showing Grigg the photo of his family, you see & hear him make mention of his "folks."
What happened to his dad? Did he end up on the cutting room floor? Does anyone know???

As you know, he's never mentioned in the movie, and I can't find any reference to his being cut from the script or anything. The only reference there is says that one of the cinematographers on the movie, King Baggot, stood in as Alex's father for a family photograph used in the movie.

I watched The Last Starfighter DVD last night with the director+production designer commentary track, there wasn't any mention of his father.
