Whitney Houston - CBS News article

Update:

Whitney Houston was among the musical artists planning to attend music mogul Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party tonight at the Beverly Hilton hotel. Emergency vehicles were seen outside of the hotel this afternoon.

Very sad to hear this. Saw her interview on Oprah in 2010, she looked good then. Surprised with the angle the media have taken, Whitney had been clean of drugs for years. Lets wait and see what the story is here.

Indeed. Still, let this be a cautionary tale of the dangers of drugs in the long haul (that and choosing the clearly wrong spouse, that if they prove to be brutal lice, best to abandon ship A.S.A.P.). Still, we'll always have the memories, not to mention the best Super Bowl national anthem to date, period.

Whitney Houston was one of my idols growing up. The first cassette tape i ever owned was the single for "how will i know," and the bodyguard soundtrack was one of my first cd's. Looking forward to seeing the tribute performance at the grammys tonight.

Wife and I listened to Whitney Houston Pandora station yesterday for quite awhile. It was pretty intense and amazing. We also watched the Super Bowl that Chris mentioned. I don't think words can even describe how amazing that performance was. Goose bumps every time I see it. By far the best ever!

Got to give props to Jennifer Hudson for nailing that tribute at the Grammy's! Haunting.

It is always a tragedy when things like this happen. And I don't mean to sound uncaring. But if you saw Whitney's last few public appearances, you kinda saw this coming. So her passing really wasn't much of a shocker to me.

Agree Pyro. I had been thinking I could wake up any day now and hear this news for quite awhile now. It's too bad, but it's life I guess.

In other news an RAF Regiment Airman was shot and killed whilst on patrol in Aghanistan yesterday.

Just thought I'd steal some of Whitney's headlines for a real tragedy where I can...

I liked Dave Grohl's Slayer shirt and upside down cross necklace during Foos grammy performance. And truer words have never been spoken than the ones directly above me.

I disagree, Whitney Houston was a talented woman, and I see nothing wrong or improper about paying your respects. The media coverage is to be expected.

As for the RAF Airman: People tend to die when they invade and occupy another country and start killing her people for corrupt governments, plutocrats and company men. That's why anti-war groups try and stop them before they get trapped in this kind of quagmire.

I respect Joe Glenton a million times more. For here's a veteran with the sense to see this war for what it was: A conflict based on lies by criminal regimes in America & England, waged at the behest of a bunch of Israeli parasites in the White House.

Hope this thread doesn't get locked.

Guys, let's keep the politics out of it.

Kash, your views on whether the US led invasions of Iraq and Afghanistan were justified should not prevent you being able to express sadness at the death of a soldier. Nor does it make that death any less sad or tragic than the death of a celebrity - however that death came about.

All deaths are tragic in their own way. Let's leave it now, people. Otherwise the thread WILL get locked.
