Well, Australia being Australia, we are copping it again! The state of Queensland (about the size of Texas) is currently underwater (well about 3 quarters of the state anyway).

The water hit the state capital of Brisbane today, leaving 9 dead.

There was one report of a witness watching a house go floating off it's foundations, with people inside screaming for help.

The Vodafone building and the Telstra buildings in the CBD are both underwater.

Possibly hundreds of cars have been swept away by the torrent that hit.

Bear in mind this is only Brisbane - the floodwater has been passing through the state for the last week, leaving most of the state in devastation.

This is a link to a news site with footage of the floodwater rising and shows how strong the force of the water is. http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/floodrelief/flood-info-centre-updates-reports-warnings-advice-and-how-you-can-help/story-fn7ik2te-1225985436806

And again, Australia being Australia, there are bushfires over in Western Australia! That's life!

Don't worry about me, I'm a couple thousand kilometres away from the worst of it. Down south here we've had torrential rain for the past week or so, the creek near my house is expected to flood in the next day or so for the 3rd time since September.

I said above how Queensland is about the size of Texas.. well, now the area underwater is the size of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas combined.

This is footage of Brisbane

This was Toowoomba a couple days ago. Bear in mind that Toowoomba sits on top of a mountain.

I was living where the floods went through in Emerald, just west of Rockhampton and lived in brisy for 12 yrs. Ive been in contact with friends but still have not heard from about 5 of them in the last week so getting slightly worried, im sure they are ok.

We've been put on flood watch today, apparantly the weather is going to get worse over the weekend as a huge band moves across from the west towards Victoria.

http://www.bom.gov.au/products/national_radar_sat.loop.shtml

Will have to wait and see what the weekend brings, might be time to put everything up high. Again. For the 3rd time since September!!

Living next to a creek has it's advantages but....

Things in Queensland have started to ease off a little, the river didn't peak as high as expected, so in Brisbane "only" 7000 houses were underwater instead of the 40000 predicted. The horrifying thing is that some families have been wiped out, in the cases where houses were knocked off their foundations... they never had a chance.
It's so upsetting to watch it on TV, naturally it's all that's on all day. So much of the country has no power, meaning no phones or internet and no mobile phones because the phone towers have been destroyed, so there are a lot of people who are uncontactable. I have an uncle who we cannot contact, and several friends in Brisbane, Toowoomba and Ipswich I haven't heard from all week.

Now that the recovery mission is underway in some parts, it's starting to sound like a horror story -

http://www.news.com.au/breaking-news/floodrelief/horror-at-mass-underwater-grave-in-grantham-lockyer-valley

I'm off to bed, I'm so thankful I have one tonight, when so many of my fellow Aussies are doing it tough.

Hey Stitch...thoughts are with all the aussies 10000 miles from where i am. Its heartbreaking that im not there to help out and feel really home sick now. I cant believe this has happened to our beautiful country. My friend had to go into brisbane cbd as she has a very high up position and was stranded her self. I still await emails from people but im certain they are fine as they would have had ample warning in emerald (central QLD). I should be coming back for 6 weeks from end of July after 6 yrs being away. Our country has seen so much rain in the last 2 yrs...just insane!! Thoughts go out to you mate. Up the Brissy Lions! Sorry, your probably an essondon supporter.

The flood looks devastating as we all can see watching the news.
