What the heck is going on at that place?

I had heard people talk about it, and they said you could post "anything" on there....so I was looking for property for sale, in my area. I saw there was a whole section that people can post their business info. , I saw other B & B's on there, so I was thinking-cool, free advertising...but then I started looking around on the whole site, and I looked up the personal ads for my area, to see if I knew anyone on there, who posted a picture...and OMG...there is prostitution going on all over Craig's List-and there is pornography everywhere on there. How is that legal? How can people post their pictures, and say what they charge for "anything you can think of"...and get away with that. They say they will do anything for a "donation"? Why can't the police bust those people for prostitution. It would be very easy. You just go undercover and pose as someone interested in meeting them. How can people...in this day and age- post their personal cell phone number on there ...for anyone to call them...to meet them. That is so scary. I know that there is all kinds of creepy weird stuff like that going down on the internet, but how can people get away with something like that- this is right out in the open for everyone to see.

Did everyone... but me, know that this existed??

Wow, I didn't know about the prostitution thing. I've used craig's list in my area for a few years now for buying music equipment like guitar pedals and never had a problem, but that's about all I go on there for.

Do you ever read the Court news in your paper and read of people you know of?

It is easy find...I couldn't believe it. I always wonder about people posting their picture on the internet, if it really is them. You never ever know for sure who your really dealing with, unless you meet them in person.

I don't get the newspaper, it is all depressing information. I have a friend that calls me to tell me everything that is going down around here anyway. Even if I don't want to know it.

I've heard about Craig's list, but as far as I know we don't have anything like that here.

I watched a tv show a little while ago about a girl who went missing after arranging to meet someone from Craig's List.

It always freaks me out when I read about Craig's List because my first name is Craig.... and I don't even have a list!

Welcome to the real world.... not the stylised, glitzy world of how the movie studios portrayed the 1980s.

The Internet allows this stuff online because there's no effective way of restricting it - you can't police the web, despite what government might say. You can monitor it, but it's always going to be a losing battle, because if they find one site and pull it down, there's 100 more that they miss.

I understand how many people are on there doing that stuff, and it would be a never ending battle-but they should try...and they could shut this site down easily. If they made it even harder to do that stuff, then that at least is a start, we might as well just not have any laws, if the internet makes everything legal.
