Petrol (Gas) prices have been falling here for the last couple of months. I was wondering if it was just us here, or if it was happening all around the world?

2 months ago we were paying $1.70 per litre (approx $6.40 per gallon), yesterday I paid $1.04 per litre ($4.50 per gallon).

This is the cheapest fuel has been in probably 3 years!

Nova Scotia Canada.....steadily falling from $1.00 + per litre....now $0.74 per litre. I have seen cars lining up this evening, with rumors of an increase tomorrow. It's been great though. Two months ago, it took almost $60 to fill my rig....now only about $40.

I think the lowest I have seen gas prices around here is around $1.69 a gallon. It is crazy, and there has never seemed to have been an explaination for any of it. It was close to $4.00 a gallon this summer.

Is that a sign of inflation? Or the collapse of the auto industry? It's great the prices are down, but for how long? What's the catch?

It's likely the recession in general; with less reason to drive unnecessarily, demand has completely evaporated around the planet, and until things change in this regard, most analysts think that no cuts by OPEC will be enough to halt the bleeding they're experiencing (although the Saudis would be OK up till about the $30 mark). In northeast PA it's currently averaging around $1.75, likely to go down a couple more cents on Friday as seems the norm lately.
