A lot of rewinders here.I don`t know everybody's age.Anyway,no matter decade. When you did that important first jump into the work world, what was it?I think that would be some fun to know.

I myself started up logging Timber in the end of the 80`s.And got paid for the amount of trees cut down every day.I remember it involved a lot of pain the first months from handling that chainsaw often 12 hours a day.

However it worked out pretty good for a living as i got in better shape.Ended up doing that for 2 years, before moving over to the oil industry.

What did you do?

BTW,the job also included planting new trees as well. Not like other places around the world. 250.000 if i recall right.I still do some planting once in a while in my dreams to this day [Confused]

My first real job was at IBM, testing servers before shipping to customers. I started when I was 19, and stayed with IBM until I was 29, by which time I was supervising staff repairing Hewlett Packard PCs and laptops.

My first serious job, before I started teaching, was at Gopher Surveying Company. I basically went to courthouses and checked out deeds and property transfers and things like that. It was actually a good job, but it turned out to be a very, very short job...it didn't last long.

My first serious job (if delivering pizza for Godfather's doesn't count) was as an electrician in the US Navy.

My first serious job, was after I graduated from travel and tourism school...my school found me and a bunch of my classmates jobs at a huge 24 hour Travel Agency outside of Richmond VA. I had to move 6 hours away from my hometown (which is the only place I ever knew).

Me and my best friend moved in with another girl that we went to school with....we each had our own bedroom. I loved our apartment. It was like a luxury apartment....with a community pool and hot tub, and we had our own balcony. We had so much fun.

I worked the day shift in the beginning...and my best friend worked the night shift...but then I switched to be with her.

The place was gigantic...and we had all corportate clients who called in. So many other people that worked there had the same name as me, so that was what everyone used as a conformation number, their name and the date...so I had to pick a different name to go by.

I am very chatty.. as I am on here...and I built up my own customer base ..that when they called in they asked for me by my name. I remember this one guy I made reservations for ...he asked if he could meet me in person...so I invited him to a party we were having...because my best friend and I decided to move in to our own apartment, and our other roommate moved with her boyfriend. He came up to meet me, and brought me this giant box of all assorted chocolate cover candied roses...they were the coolest thing...

I remember he asked me on a date...and wanted to take me to New York City, then he wanted to take me to Florida, then to California, then to the Bahamas-I said no to everything...then he wanted me to go to Hawaii...and he actually had me booked to go, and mailed me a bikini...and I said no again....then he tried to get me to go to Japan...

So, I wouldn't have had to be a travel agent to have gotten to travel ...I could have been his "escort"-if ya know what I mean- [Wink]

I LOVED being a travel agent. We lived in Virginia a year-had a total blast...then moved to PA and got jobs again at a new place-I loved it. I got to dress up every day. I did get to travel. My new boss sent me to Hawaii for 10 days. I went on a "Fam" trip ...and the guy who invited my agency on the trip...he was the guide...there were 20 women on the trip...and they all partied with him...and he had a penthouse at the one hotel we stayed at...every one went up to it but me...by then I was engaged to my husband...and I never "partied" any way...
this guy had acted extremely unprofessional...and he kept trying to put the moves on me...all the other girls thought he was totally "Hot"...I thought he was a total loser.
And when I got back home, I wrote the company a letter about him...and then he wrote to my boss about me...and said I was anti social....and then my boss slammed him big time, and wrote all kinds of nice things about me...and I have that letter to this day.

I loved my job so much. People sent me flowers, they gave me candy...I had 1 guy who gave me a $20 tip for getting him a great deal on his airline ticket, someone brought me in donuts...some one gave me cookies....I kind of think that what I do now...is a total mix of every job I ever had.

Here's a picture of me and one of my best friends (he wasn't my rommate) He was my high school boyfriend's brother, and for 3 years he and I were pretty much joined at the hip...he and his best friend came to see me for a week in Virginia...this was during that week, in front of my 1st apartment:

My first serious job right after high school was as a welder. I did it for a couple of months and quit! I absolutely hated working in that sweatshop. Too dirty and underpaid. I moved on to Auto mechanics and did that for many years before going back to college.... Now I'm a network engineer...

There you go jdocster04 .I got all those welding certificates. After logging Timber for two years.Steel, aluminum, stainless steel,etc,mig/mag tig,and those old electrodes.I also got my certificate of completed apprenticeship diploma after the troll A platform.Look it up. Here

Tallest structure ever moved on earth.Pretty cool [Cool]

I did however quit that job myself.

All those certificates is long gone by now.It had to be renewed every 6 months,in the oil industry over here.

I still have the apprenticeship diploma on my wall however.

Be well.
