Wet Hot American Summer (2001):

 -

I searched and didn't find a thread on this film. And considering it's a 2001 comedy film set back in the early 80's. I figured it needed to be done.

Before you say anything, NO..this is not a porno film..I know, the title is misleading isn't it? It is actually a very funny 2001 throwback parody film of 80's camp comedy slapsticks. It's very reminiscent of the 'Meatballs' films, but Much Much funnier. And I'm pretty sure anyone who's seen this movie will agree.

With an All-Star comedy cast consisting of: Janeane Garofalo, Molly Shannon, Michael Showalter, Michael Ian Black, David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd, and Margeurite Moreau, this film is sure to tickle the funny bone of anyone who enjoyed watching the screwball comedies of the 80's.

I love this movie. And as I previously mentioned, if you loved the "Meatballs" films of the 80's, and other movies like them, then you can just throw all those movies in the trash and replace them with this great comedy. It's Hilarious and a great throwback film to crack a beer open to and just enjoy as you watch the off-the-wall stupidity commence.

I love this movie!!! So many awesome one liners in this one. All of the montages are hilarious, especially the one where all the counselors go into town looking for "supplies." [Smile]

there are a couple of topics about this movie, but they were in the 80s board lol. i know it's been talked about here, but it does deserve it's own spot here on the 00's board since it's 2001.

i've only seen it once and thought it was pretty good.

I thought it was pretty good. The montage of the counsellers going into town is a classic.

Yes..I absolutely love this movie!

It easily ranks in my "Top 10" funniest comedies of this past decade.

Glad others on here enjoy it too

here's another random and funny moment of wackyness from this film...

Pyro .. I totally agree that this movie deserves a viewing by all fans of the 80's. I mentioned it the other day as being in my top 3 films now with an 80's setting. Forgot you started the thread .. might be what began the appreciation for it on The Rewind. very cool

Devolution here,

I did watch this recently, I like the fact that it's one of those movies that everyone was in before they really hit it big, like Dazed and Confused and more importantly to this website, Fast Times.

I did like this movie and felt that it was unnecessarily awkward at times, but that was the nature of the beast. Was it Meatballs? No. Was it Meatballs part II? No. Was it Poison Ivy? No, but it was better.

I would say see it, kind of nuts for a last day of camp scenario, but it makes all of the points of being great for an ensemble cast.

The soundtrack is slightly above average.

I think that parts of this movie are hilarious and other parts--Devo hit it: they are "awkward"--had me scratching my head. I'd like to hear what folks have to say about "The Ten," the later David Wain/Paul Rudd film. That one elicits really strong reactions--you either love it or loathe it. [Smile]

I've only just found out about this series. It looks like they got most(All?) of the original cast to return.

Has anyone seen this?

Yeah, I binge watched all eight episodes. And once again, folks love this, but I'm mystified. I laughed about four times. That's a laugh every other episode. It's not that I don't get Wain/Showalter's humor. I do. It's just not funny. And the few potentially funny bits are poorly delivered or timed. Christopher Meloni, once again, made me laugh the most and the hardest with his crazed vet talking to the can of mixed vegetables. And there is one very funny meta joke where Amy Poehler tells her Broadway-bit-player lover, "This can't work. I'm only 16." But other than that, bit after bit falters. They did get everyone back--working out all the schedules must've been maddening--but some folks obviously weren't available for long. (Bradley Cooper probably did a couple day's work.) All in all, if you love WHAS the movie, you are going to love this series because it's more of the same with more stars--Weird Al Yankovic, Chris Pine, Jon Hamm... If you are llike me, you'll just blankly stare at it wondering why people think that it's great.

Watched this one the other night and i liked it.
Cool cast and characters, great soundtrack (Loverboy, Rick Springfield, Jefferson Starship etc.) and lots of funny scenes and jokes.
Summer camp flick packed with pretty counselors but zero nudity and i still like it. Is that even possible? [Big Grin]

Its a must see for 80s lovers. Could have done without the scene in the shack with the two dudes.

If it's heavy on the Molly Shannon, it's a big NO for me (the movie or the series). I find her completely unfunny and awkward, even in serious roles she is awkward.
