I was cleaning out my office this week and I came across this poem that my friend had written for me on my last birthday, which is almost here again! I just had to put this on here so that you all could read it. Let me know what you think.
IF WE HAD BEEN FRIENDS IN 1985
If we had been friends in 1985, to your house on my bike I would arrive. We would listen to the radio, don't you know, waiting for Madonna's newest hit so we could record ever bit on your brand new double tape deck boom box! Later we'd slid our Pony's back on over our socks, you know the kind with the little fuzzy ball on the back. Then we'd be off to the Tropical Snow shack. Back at my house, we'd plug in the crimping iron, laughing and planning all our future fun. We'd put on our jeans, tuck rolled just right, ready to roller skate all night! After a night of Duran Duran and Wham, and a ride home in a Grand Am. We'd tune into MTV's video countdown. Pumping up the volume for Prince, Springsteen, Van Halen until we finally unwound. Later in the week to the TV we'd be glued, until Miami Vice, The Cosby Show, Family Ties, and Who's the Boss were viewed. Schroder, Fox, Cruise, Ringwald, Estevez, and Lowe, to name a few of the stars we'd read about in the Tiger Beat review. A stamp was only twenty-two cents and gas a buck twenty-two, Star Wars was a movie and a political debate too. We watched as the Challenger exploded in the sky and sang along with the We are the World outcry. Our bangs were stacked as high as they could go, we said words like like, bad, dirty spoon, and ghetto. So if we'd have been friends in 1985, that's what we would have done. But here we are two decades later, but still having fun. We've traded our Guess jeans for a pair thatwe are just relieved that fit. We've got mini vans that tote kids and not Ltd Fords with learning permits. When I shopped for the perfect gift for you, I looked for a t-shirt of Motley Crue, Cindy Lauper's greats hits CD, a season of Murder She Wrote now on DVD, a bottle of Boone's Farm Wine, a Ronald Reagen biography or a stolen street sign. The DVD version of Mask with Cher Perhaps and empty Coke bottle in case you wanted to play truth or dare. A six pack of Jolt or a rubick's cube, just to name a few. But I simply settled on this new beach bag; so in the next decade I don't have to imagine our memories. But we can reminisce about the 2000's and that trip to the beach.
What a nice jester from my friend Lynette. One of the absolutely most genuine people I know. What do you all think of it?
