My son has been watching it...he never saw an epsiode before...I really never have either...I can't remember ever seeing any episode except the one Sheena Easton guest starred in.

I was watching a piece of one this afternoon, and saw Don Johnson wearing a pair of Pink baggy pants...and I thought...yeah woo hoo...he could pull it off. I loved the clothes!!

My son said...the 80's Rocked! He says this show has an awesome opening song in it...and I said...yepper, it was a major hit...I said you know good stuff when ya hear it...thankfully it has rubbed off!!!

I've only seen parts of a few episodes, but my favorite one is "Phil The Shill", which guest-starred Phil Collins, Kyra Sedgwick and Emo Phillips in a rare dramatic role.

Sincerely,

John Kilduff

AAAh Miami Vice. Well, when I was a kid, I didn't watch it that often because it was on Friday nights at either 9:00 or 10:00, and i was never home on a Friday night unless I was sick. So yesterday I watched a few eps. in the morning, then from 5:00p.m. until 2:00a.m. I watched it. I taped the last four that they aired and will watch them on a rainy day. Anyhoo, it was great seeing SOME of the fashions (not all 80's fashions were good) and some of the hairdo's. But I'll tell ya what - Don Johnson could wear a bread bag and still look good. His clothes were really great. Some of the women's clothes were nice, but not all of them. I especially liked Kyra Sedgewick's clothes in "Phil the Swill". I would have worn stuff like that out to the nightclubs or to one of my college formals. And she still looks exactly the same. So what do you guys think of the clothes and hairdo's?

I watched most of the movie "No Small Affair" last night...and I finally saw a few 80's fashion nightmares...Demi Moore's one outfit that looked like a ballerina thing, and her hair was in a pony tail, and sprayed to stand straight up on top of her head...that was definately not a good look.

Don Johnson= Loafers with no Socks!

What happened to that trend??? Blisters???

I can't believe I almost missed it. Thank god for DVRs. I was able to catch about 15 episodes, including the pilot. Miami Vice was one of my favorite shows as a kid (if not my favorite).

ISIS, eightieschick, I hope you guys got a chance to see a good number of the shows on TVLAND, better still if you tivo'ed them. MV was awesome. Too bad you didn't get a eye-full back in the 80's. [Smile]

Great show, good music, nice threads, cool cast and the home of one Michael Mann, but when you watch it back now, it all seems way over the top. And you gotta smirk at how everyone must've been dead serious watching Sonny Crocket driving at night as Phill Collins's 'In The Air Tonight' plays over the scene. Love it (no points for subtlety, top marks for fun though).

I dated a guy once who wore those woven loafers. It just seems kinda weird when you look back on it now.

I was watching Miami Vice last night, my son is loving it...he said...he watched an episode and there's a song in it he loved, and he said he had to play it for me....to see if I knew it...and it turned out to be "In the air tonight"-Phil Collins....my son said he had heard the song before....but the way they used it on the show was awesome....Don Johnson drives that black Ferrari.....where did he get that car at anyway...my husband said it was probably an impounded car.

Anyway...Don Johnson looked awesome...he had the perfect upper body for a guy, he was perfectly tanned too, and I love the clothes in these shows...EVERYONE dressed great.....I wish people, especially kids knew how cool people use to dress. I loved those sleeveless muscle type shirts Don Johnson wore, I can picture guys I knew in school dressing like that. I would love to see that come back in style. Everyone looked clean. I always think people look really dirty looking anymore, no matter what they seem to be wearing. I think it is because most of the time they are wearing dirty clothes.

My son thinks this show is so awesome...and he loves the pet alligator.

People tend to forget to mention that Don Johnson had that unshaven two-day-old beard look on that show. You'd think if he could afford a boat and drive an expensive fancy car, he could at least buy himself an electric razor!

I hated the look then, and still hate it now.

Well...that was the "style"...I think it worked for him....I used to think he looked kind of greasey looking back then...but now that I have seen what hardcore looking men look like today...he's totally classy looking to me now. I loved their clothes. Every guy I knew actually dressed just like that..everyone wore pastel colors, and were very colorful, and everyone matched, and looked well put together...I totally believe that what you wear really has an effect on your personality.

I can totally remember loving to get clothes for Christmas...and not being able to decide what to wear back the first day of school after Christmas vacation.

I remember the year I was 16....I got this pink and gray shirt , it buttoned up, and had a funky design on it, and I got a pin stripped denim mini skirt and scrunchy boots for Christmas, and those banana clips, only the ones I got looked like sea shells, and I got a pink one, and I got pink and gray matching earrings and a pink and gray bangle bracelet....and I got a cool denim purse, and buttons of Prince from Purple rain, and put them on my purse...I thought that was the coolest out fit.

I remember loving to wear leggings and mini skirts and boots, and big button up shirts that you left un tucked, and wore a huge belt with them, and you could unbotton the top buttons and wear any colored tank top underneath it... I had all different colors to mix and match, and always had matching earrings. Everything was color coordinated. I never ever see anyone dress that way any more, not ever. It is depressiing.

My son said Crockett and Tubbs are the Starsky and Hutch of Miami. [Big Grin]

I am watching an episode right now, and the one police officer that works with them, is the creepy killer in the movie Angel with Donna Wilkes.

I am guessing it ran for about seven or eight years. I am not certain, though.

I wasn't a big fan of the show, but i watched it depending on who was going to make a guest appearance, such as Phil Collins, Gene Simmons, Ted Nugent, etc.

I never knew it was on that long, as far as I knew it could have only ran for 2 years, cause I never saw it then.

I had a social life in the 80's so I never watched any tv...now there's nothing on tv...so instead of having a social life...I watch old 80's shows that were on tv...that is kind of a strange twist.

I just bought Starsky and Hutch season 3 on Ebay...I had been looking for it for a long time.

There are older cop shows like The Rookies and Police Woman that I would maybe like to purchase down the road.

For what it's worth, one of the best 80's cop shows, "Hill Street Blues: Season One", will finally be out on DVD later on this month!

My mom loved that show, so maybe she'll want to get it...I think it was on too late or didn't appeal to me back then, but I might like it now, it beats the heck out of what is on TV now...which is nothing...I don't even care if I have cable, I said that tonight to my husband, cause I never watch regular tv.

I love the shirts they are wearing....I would have stolen them in the 80's....guys clothes were nicer than girls.

That's a thing of the past. But for a guy to be wearing pastel-colored clothes? Today? Well, maybe in Miami, and in West Hollywood, and in that "Queer Eye For The Straight Guy" show.

Today, most guys --- unless they're gay or one of those so-called "metrosexual" types --- who would wear pastel colors are going to get strange looks!

I agree SteveHW! I was thinking of this while watching MV a few days ago. The fashions were great, but would not hold up today. I know I would not want to date a guy who came to the door dressed in a pastel short sleeve blouse and white pleated baggies. It's like those stupid shoulder pads that women wore- why would people want to look even bigger? I hated that 1940's huge should-padded suit look too. And I hate the 1940's hairdo that the women wore- I still see many old ladies with their hair like that.
Anyone have any fashions or fashion eras that they hate?- Oh, maybe I'll just make this a new post!
