A friend of mine gave me this song on a DVD, and it is one weird video. The song itself is OK, I like Peter Gabriel's In Your Eyes alot better.

What about the video to Sledgehammer? Talk about out there, but cool.

Peter Gabriel's iconic album "So" (1986) doesn't have one bad song on there; excellent tracks, including of course "Sledgehammer", "Mercy Street" (my favorite), "Big Time", "Don't Give Up", "In Your Eyes", "Red Rain", etc.

Circa 1990 a radio station where I used to live (East Coast) voted "So" as the best rock/pop album of the 1980's - hands down. I'm not sure I agree 100%, but it was an amazing album.

I saw Peter Gabriel in Toronto at the Rogers Dome circa July 1993. That was the single best pop/rock concert that I have ever seen anywhere--and I've seen a few in my lifetime. [Smile] Every track of "So" is fantastic, but I'm really partial to "Don't Give Up," the classic "In Your Eyes," and "Red Rain." Beautiful album. Paula Cole, by the way, not yet a star herself, was his backup singer for "Don't Give Up." While she isn't in the same league as the amazing Kate Bush, she was very good. It was a really memorable concert with awesome staging. It was later released on VHS and laserdisc documenting the show in Venice, Italy, I believe. Gabriel, ever the showman, had the best exit of any artist I've ever seen. During the instrumental part of his encore, he opened up a large suitcase on stage. All the members of his band climbed into the suitcase (really they went into the suitcase and under the stage through a trapdoor). Gabriel then mightily lugged his now "heavy" suitcase to center stage where he looked up and in a flash of light, a flying saucer descended to pick him up. Now that's an exit!

It's been over 23 years since I saw that concert, but it was unforgettable. Gabriel is a true genius.
