I'm changing gears a little on my metal threads. Instead of having a seperate thread for each of my band of the days I'm going to make one long continual thread and call it Sam's Metal Shop. That way I can do either an album, band, song etc and not limit myself so much. Not trying to compete with Noms just think there was enough good metal out there in the 80's for both of us. Besides we both have a little different tastes in our metal; I'm a little more mainstream and he's a little more hardcore.

for my first entry in Sam's Metal Shop I'm devoting it to Metallicas first album Kill 'Em All

 -

Still one of their best and a definite groundbreaking album for the whole speed metal genre; and for these reasons this album will always be one of the true classics in the history of metal and rock n roll in general. This album has many classic songs on it like Seek and Destroy, Hit The Lights, The Four Horsemen, Metal Militia, etc... This album even though is now 22 years old still sounds fresh to me. Besides one can never go wrong with the late Cliff Burton on bass.

What an absolutley inspired first choice. Metallica rule all and the Four Horsemen is definitley one of my fave songs and is absolutley awesome when played live (Lars had to pull out of a recent festival and Dave Lombardo of Slayer and Joey of Slipknot took over on drums. Dave played Battery and the Four Horsemen).

I still prefer Ride the Lightning and Master of Puppets to Kill 'Em All but as a debut album, this is one of the best ever (second place goes to Machine Head's "Burn My Eyes".

ps. I love the idea of the metal Shop and I don't see it as competition. The more metal included in these forums the better...

Plus it should stop you posting albums on my own thread... [Wink] [Big Grin]

This is my favorite METALLICA album because its so much rawer than everything else they've ever done. I hate to say: I don't like their new stuff. Their "we are millionaires, they now play our videos" stuff.
They played THE FOUR HORSEMEN at my wedding and me and my husband danced to it believe it or not.

I like this album because it has a sound that's so un-Metallica. The big crushing guitars have been replaced by snarky, trebley buzzsaws, and the sound is just very cool. The songs obviously haven't developed yet, but it's still a cool album.

Gold star to anyone who remembers these early MTV days and this band's name:

Strange sensations coming over me
Something I can't explain
Suddenly there's an endless void where I used to keep my brain
I gotta see a doctor, but I'm too wasted to phone one
Wanna customize my van and I don't even own one

I get up in the morning and I wanna shave my chest,
Get myself a skull tattoo, wear a denim vest
My friends are getting worried
They don't know me anymore
I smash my head against the wall
I don't even know what for
Ah, ah, ah, Oh!
I'm turning into a heavy metal head
Ah, ah, ah
I'm turning into a heavy metal head
Something makes me lose control when I hear the guitar go--
Metal head, I'm a metal head and I wanna rock and roll

When I go to a rock show I wanna raise my fist
Show my band of leather and the spikes around my wrist
I've got my Harley T-shirt, my wine skin and a six pack,
Some homegrown for the ride back home, Van Halen on the 8-track
Ah, ah, ah, WWHAAAAA!
I'm turning into a heavy metal head (Heavy metal!)
Ah, ah, ah
I'm turning into a heavy metal head
Something makes me lose control when I hear the singer go--
Metal head, I'm a metal head, I just wanna rock and roll
(metal head, I'm a metal head, I wanna rock and roll)
1,2,3,4!

Strange sensations coming over me
Something I can't explain
Suddenly there's an endless void where I used to keep my brain
Ah, ah, ah, WWHAAAAA!
I'm turning into a heavy metal head (Heavy meta!)
Ah, ah, ah
I'm turning into a heavy metal head
Something makes me lose control when I hear the drummer go--
Metal head, I'm a metal head, and I wanna rock and roll
(metal head, I'm a metal head, and I wanna rock and roll)
I'm a metal head, metal head
I just wanna Rock and Roll!

Today I'm featuring 2 albums in Sam's Metal Shop. I'm featuring the very first two albums from Ozzy Osbourne.

Blizzard of Ozz

 -

Diary Of A Madman

 -

Figured I had to include these two as a package deal since they were the two albums that featured the guitar legend Randy Rhoads before his tragic death.

How can one go wrong with songs such as Flying High Again, Over the Mountain, Crazy Train, Suicide Solution etc...

Two albums that belong in every metalheads collection as far as I'm concerned.

BLIZZARD OF OZ has my two alltime favorite songs on it: GOODBYE TO ROMANCE and CRAZY TRAIN (both pleyed at my wedding).

This album is a little more recent as it's from the 2000's but a personal favorite of mine.

 -

This LA based band via Armenia has one of the most interesting sounds I've heard in quite some time.

This is the one that started it all for Vince, Tommy, Nikki, and Mick

Motley Crues

Too Fast For Love

 -

Definitely a good album but probably not their best; but one can't deny it's place in metal history.

I always thought that album cover was a ripoff of The Rolling Stones' "Sticky Fingers" album.

Except for the lack of a fully functional zipper I guess it could be interpeted that way.

I think TOO FAST FOR LOVE is my favorite album by them. Maybe its cuz its not played out. Of course SHOUT AT THE DEVIl is a really good one too. And then THEATRE OF PAIN.

I didnt really love GIRLS GIRLS GIRLS but I did like DR FEELGOOD. DR FEELGOOD is the end of the line though, don't really care for any of their newer stuff.

Im surprised that a lot of people are now admitting they like MOTLEY CRUE. When I was a teenager people used to rag on those of us who liked them. I remember people teasing me "You like Motley Crap!"

I agree with mamamia about Dr Feelgood being the end of the line for the band, however "Bitter Pill" is one of my absolute favorite songs by them and it came out after Dr. Feelgood.

Shout at the Devil is my favorite by them followed by Dr. Feelgood, then Too Fast For Love.

Who's the better bassist?

Neither is considered metal but both are usually considered cool by metalheads so I feel their inclusion here in the Shop is justified.

We have

Les Claypool of Primus

 -

and we have

Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers

 -

Who do you like better?

My vote goes to Flea.
