This was filmed in Ireland not far from where I live. It was low budget and cheesy but it was an entertaining watch.
What do others think of it?

It was good...but not great. I saw it in the late '80s and liked it, but it's not one that I've looked up to watch again. I remember the FX were pretty good for the era, although Rex himself (itself?) looked a bit cumbersome at times...but I believe it was shot on a pretty small budget.
