Set in LA I think. This Asian kid, a martial arts expert, was staying in a motel. There was a suspicious creepy guy also living in the motel, and the kid and his friends broke into the room while the creepy guy wasn't there once and found a weird book that looked like it was covered in human skin. They also found a lot of raw meat in his bedside drawer. This is all I remember...has anyone seen it?
