Could someone who is knowledgable on old movies help me on this one.All I can remember is there are three kids in this basement, one is a computer whiz and creates this translucent ball which he can controll with his computer, and he makes it big enough to get his friends in and they fly it around.

This is a movie called "Explorers" starring Ethan Hawke and River Pheonix.
Choose "Explorers" from the menu bottom left for more details, pictures etc.
