Been spending weekends with family lately, and we’re starting to run out of fun ideas that don’t involve screens. Thought about picking up some card games, but beyond Poker and Uno, I feel kind of lost. Are there any cool games out there that aren’t so mainstream? Bonus points if they’ve got a fun cultural twist or are easy to teach older relatives. Would love to hear recommendations from folks who’ve found any gems.

Totally hear you on wanting screen-free, engaging options. One thing that really expanded my perspective on card games was this breakdown of regional ones I came across: https://www.mirrorreview.com/regional-card-games/. It dives into fascinating picks from Asia, Europe, and beyond. For example, I tried Briscola (from Italy) with friends last month, and it became an instant favorite—simple, strategic, and a great conversation starter. Exploring different cultures through their traditional card games is a rewarding experience on its own.

Hadn’t thought much about regional card games before, but this thread’s got me intrigued. We’ve also been looking for ways to unplug and reconnect, so this idea might just be what we need. Appreciate everyone sharing these lesser-known suggestions.
