My favorite is Jermaine Stewart, "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off".
Remember that one?!
What's your fav?

Have always been into music-could never pick one. Had a hard time keeping it at 7!
Flock of Seagulls: “I Ran (So Far Away)” Soft Cell: “Tainted Love” Modern English: “I Melt With You” Quarterflash: “Harden My Heart” Scandal: "Goodbye To You" The Jeff Healy Band: “Angel Eyes” Vixen: “Edge Of A Broken Heart”
I've been meaning to ask; are your two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year?
Posted by Two Lost Souls (Member # 8863) on :
^haha...I almost put 'swimming in a fish bowl' as my location!
Great choices, by the way. Those are all great songs.

Big Country released two pretty good albums with "steeltown" and "the crossing". "the seer" isn't a bad album either. i'm surprised they didn't do better in the u.s.

Hmm... the problem with questions like this is many artists had different hits in different countries. So 'Soft Cell' for instance, had one big US hit but many in the UK. So, Just to be contrary (my part-time forum role) I'm gonna shine a light on alternatives that were hits - possibly in other countries, or possibly in the same country.

Anyone that begins anything with "My favorite is Jermaine Stewart" needs assistance. I'm kidding! Or am I?!

My picks may not qualify-Quarterflash had another hit in "Find Another Fool" (liked that too) and Scandal had "Love's Got A Line On You" Now there's a place I go With a boy I know We're together, gettin' better All the time And there are words I say When we hide away Makes him crazy, makes him love me All the time
Good times-may have that one on 45. They had a hit in "The Warrior"-wasn't down with that one though.

Big Country was such a great band. My brother bought all their albums so it´s definately not a one hit wonder, at least not for us.
Stuart Adamson´s death was a big shock back in 2001.

excellent home work there logan...i only rediscovered fiction factory a month ago and forgot about feels like heaven - tremendous song indeed. i really dont know of another song of theirs off the top of my head.

Fiction Factory has some other good songs, so check em out for sure. At least look for 'Ghost Of Love' off of the same album as 'Feels Like Heaven', it's tremendous.
-Just wanted to add that I love Big Country too. When they get it right, they are quite brilliant.

'Throw the Warped Wheel Out' is actually a pretty good album. FLH is clearly the best song, but there are others that are pretty good. Like SA says 'Ghost of Love' is pretty good, so is 'Panic'.
Here's some one-hitters I always liked (not including 'Feels Like Heaven' and 'Melt With You' which have been mentioned):
Angry Anderson - Suddenly. It's tacky but I liked it:
Swallow all of that!!!!

It's so weird that you mention that, I heard that song on the radio the other day for the first time in forever!

lol...What's wrong with some Jermaine Stewart?! It's still a great song, a few different people have covered it over the past few years. I know he had other songs, but "We Don't..." is by far his most popular.

Ohh, I have a good one to add...
The Future's So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades -Timbuk3

They weren't one-hit wonders. In the UK they really weren't one-hit wonders!

I'm playing with you. Jermaine Stewart doesn't get mentioned much, so I guess he ranks lower on the nostalgia 'hierarchy'. I have no issues with him at all. You like what you wanna like and don't let someone like me stop you!
People like me make me sick!
However, I do disagree with the premise of the song... I think we really do have to take our clothes off to have a good time!

Come to think of it, did Patrick Swayze record any other records; if not, "She's Like the Wind" more than qualifies as well.

I might like you better if we slept together. So snotty! Love it. Had success with "Girl in Trouble" too-so may not be a one hit. They did a VH1 Bands Reunited....that was a good show. Loved the Berlin one.
Thought about Aha/Take On Me-but the song and the video are so intertwined in my head, it was such a breakthrough concept. Remember HBO's video jukebox? Loved that 1/2 hour show!

There are many that I really like, including "Take on Me" by a-ha, "Something About You" by Level 42, "Fascinated" by Company B, "If You Leave" by OMD, and "Heart and Soul" by T'pau.
That said, I ADORE "Under the Milky Way" by The Church. It wasn't really a big hit here in the U.S., but I think it should have been.
Posted by Pyromantic (Member # 7658) on :
hmmm..just one??..i don't think it can be done...so here's a few off the top of my head:
The Vapors - Turning Japanese Burning Sensations - Belly of a Whale Combo Audio - Romanticide Dexy's Midnight Runner - Come On Eileen Rockwell - Somebody's Watching Me The Buggles - Video Killed the Radio Star T'Pau - Heart & Soul Boomtown Rats - I Don't Like mondays Dramarama - Anything, Anything Shannon - Give Me Tonight Midnight Oil - Beds are Burning Matthew Wilder - Break My Stride

It's a great song, but not really the kind that would be a big hit during the peak of MTV. Too alternative sounding. Time has made it more famous. That and the 'Donnie Darko' soundtrack!

For some reason, my phone won't allow me to open most of the YouTube links, but I was able to listen to "I was Only Dreaming" by OMD. I definitely remember that song, but didn't realize that OMD sang it. I did not recognize the first OMD song.
Since I cannot open up the A-ha link, I'm going to guess that it may be "The Sun Always Shines on TV". This is the only other song that I know by them, but not because I ever heard it on U.S. radio. I wound up discovering it by accident sometime during the late 90's.
I'm curious as to what the other Level 42 song is, but hopefully my home pc will let me watch the videos.
My ignorance of some of these songs may have to do with my age during the 80's: I was born during the tail end of the 70s. It could also have to do with how I define "hit". Although some of these songs may have charted during the 80's in the U.S., they are not that easily recognizable, or didn't get a lot of airplay on popular radio (I wasn't really listening to alt radio when I was that young). Furthermore, some hits were regionalized: a while back posted about the phenomenom of freestyle music in the 80's. This was HUGE in the Northeast (mostly New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, etc.) and also in Miami, Florida. However, if I speak to people who grew up in other parts of the U.S., they have little idea what I'm talking about!
Yes, Donnie Darko most likely put The Church on people's radar. As an aside, I cringed when I heard a remake of it that appeared during a car commercial around the holiday season of 2009. Boo!

Bingo! They also had many hits over here. 'Cry Wolf', 'The Living Daylights', 'Stay on These Roads', etc. Pretty good stuff. The first two were their best, though.

You may know this now, but; 'Lessons in Love'. I think it was their biggest international hit.
