When I win the lottery my plan is to put my 80's dream in motion. Everyone knows my all-time fav flick is "Valley Girl", so my thought is that I would find some space in the Valley and launch the most totally awesome 80's Movie Network ever imagined.

 -

This wouldn't be just any normal movie channel though .. It would be an 'all 80's all the time' network shown to viewers in crystal clear HD.

What makes it different than say Encore that shows 80's movies quite often you ask?

Well, to begin with.. I plan on including the 80's knowledge and talent we have right here on The Rewind. Think about what our collective knowledge could bring to my 80's network dream. Our programming would include all the classics, but also the obscure hidden gems that everyone else has since forgotten...except for us.

But that's not it. My thought is, since we will be located in Cali, we will not just show the 80's movies we love, but we will bring in cast members that we will interview in between the movies.

I'm not done...my plan is to get Deborah Foreman on board and have her do a uniquely cool reality show called "The Valley" which will center around Deb and her friends as they maneuver through their entertaining non-80's lives today.

Hey it's my dream .. so I'll keep going!

I want to do another show with the help of my Rewind friends called "In Search of the Lost 80's" where we go out in search of actors like Michael Schoeffling and Deborah Goodrich. The hope is that we will eventually find them and they allow us to do an interview.

Another show would get fav actors/actresses from our beloved 80's flicks and they would visit locations from their movies and share their thoughts and memories.

Finally..once we get up and running..I'd love to start developing some '80's style' movies and use actors from our 80's past in them.

Before you start telling me .. won't happen .. too many obstacles .. Please realize I'm just having fun and know it is more of a dream than a reality for now.

Who's dreaming with me?

I was talking to people about My Bodyguard and two people I knew had seen it and two people wrote it down because I convinced them they need to see it.........but that doesn't happen very often........think if there was a channel like this........could we do a "usa up all night" Friday night??

Well Power ball is up to 76 million that should be enough to get things rolling. when I win it I will invest. I would watch it day and night there is a station (or maybe a few) that does pre 80's TV shows but not movies RTV we used to have it here in Utah but no any more [Frown]
An 80's all movie channel would be:

"AWSOME TOTALY AWSOME!!"

"FER SURE"

Keep the dream going Valley

Not too cool Logan5, like I won't get bummed out. Maybe it's a subliminal message of sorts..

Don't let it get me, don't let it get me, don't let it get me..

Well, it's Saturday night and I'm still free
And I ain't never gonna be
Eaten by the monster of love

Just to avoid any confusion..I went back an updated the picture.

'The 80's Movie Network' is obviously a ground floor of The Galleria work in progress. For instance, Veronica Sawyer wants to include 80's music ideas into my plans...I say bring it!

Also, who else thinks that Atomik and Riptide should do a "Beyond Obscure 80's" segment as our overnight programming at least a couple of times a week?

We have so many 80's skilled people here ... we could match up our talents and work on projects together. Think stuff in the realm of...Horror, Teen, Comedy, Drama, SciFi, 80's Fashion, and 80's Music as just a few examples.

What area best defines you as an 80's fan?

I'm in. I'll do the segment where, on Friday nights from 11PM to 1AM, I dress up like I'm stuck in the 80's, and show classic 80's music videos...sorry...this VJ will not play much past 1985...with the odd exception of course! We could convince companies to let us use all the early 80's commercials too...AND...we could start filming all new After School Specials...with Rewinders as the actors...no kissing scenes for me...happily married man!

* Canada's version of MTV (Much Music) had an all 80's channel for music videos that you could order...I had it for a while, then it disappeared...I don't think it exists any longer...shame.

and i could have my own little weekly part where i do interviews with some of the lost 80s actors.

for instance..

before you air, say...REAL GENIUS...
before the picture begins, i'm shown in a sit down interview with Gabe Jarret (mitch taylor) and we talk about the movie, ...a few questions before the movie. it can be light, fun. then, audiences can stay tuned after the movie for some last questions. (to keep them watching)

that can be done once or twice a week. [Smile] [Big Grin]

I would love to have a show that focuses on the horror movies of the 80's! We could bring in actors like Robert Englund and Linnea Quigley for interviews and do marathons of 80's horror movies like USA Up All Night used to do (I loved that show too Muffy!).

Muffster what an awesome list of late night movies! I want to thank USA Up All Night for introducing me to movies like ... Sorority Babes in the Slimeball Bowl-O-Rama!

Okay there is definitely room on our 80's Movie Network for something similar to Up All Night. But unlike USA Network..my plan is to show unedited movies with the best picture and sound we can find. I think we can develop 'Dinner & a Movie' or 'Mystery Science Theater' style programs for the Network as well, but overall my vision was to show unedited/uninterrupted 80's movies as the main programming. But still keep them unique with interviews like Ronnie was mentioning before and after the movies. But I love the Up All Night type idea and think it is a definite addition we need for our retro network.

Notice how I'm sounding like all of this is in the works right now... ha

Amazing idea!!

First of all think how great that would be. Second of all if real fans like us were behind the channel it would be even better!

I love the ideas so far for the station. 80's commercials are a must. Also, I love the format of having 80's style "up all night" shows so that there can be commentary and interviews during small breaks in the film.

There isn't anything between a dream and reality but a little hard work. I have a similar project that will see a modest movie house fixed up to bring back that crimson curtain feeling to the movies that have been absent for so long. Play a host of old 80's, 70's and 60's movies up on the big screen again where they belong.

Truly a brilliant idea Valley and would expect nothing less out of someone like you than to see it a reality within 36 months. I am sorry though Kevdug, I must watch programming on Saturday night after 10:30 pm until the wee hours of the morning picked, sponsored and hosted by aTomik! A mad genius of 80's arcania if ever there was one. [Big Grin]

Wow Valley,
That is like such an rad idea fur sure:-) I am totally in with you & all the other rewinders with making this project.
Everyone's ideas are great. I was thinking of also including cartoons in the mornings, you know the favourites we watched as kids-jetsons, care bears, he-man & she-ra etc..
You also have to include 80's talk shows like Geraldo Rivera ,Oprah & Sally Jessie Raphael. oh oh let's not forgot the soaps as well-Santa Barbara and the Bold & the Beautiful.

We were discussing the thrill of watching 80's flicks on the big screen..

When we get The 80's Movie Network launched .. my thought is that we will work with movie theaters all over the country/world and organize 80's movie premieres. For instance, we will actually hold a red carpet (or should we do pink..ha) event somewhere and bring back folks involved in the premiered movie which we would telecast, but also do a midnight showing later that week on Saturday night across the country/world. The 80's Network will then be considered Rewind Global!

I want to expand upon the 80's movie premiere idea. Look everyone has seen these movies numerous times, so what would make more than people like us go watch them at a theater on a Saturday night at midnight?

My thought is that we have to make it more than just a 80's movie, but an actual event that attracts 80's fans and the mainstream movie fan as well. Like getting people to dress up like the characters in the movie or at least wear 80's style clothing to the showing aka "Rocky Horror" from the 80's.

Let's use "Sixteen Candles" as an example.. so many character choices you could go as .. Jake Ryan, Samantha Baker, Long Duk Dong, Farmer Ted, Water Fountain girl, Bryce or Cliff ..

Also, we should do the pink carpet premieres in the cities the movies were actually filmed. Think Sixteen Candles (Evanston, Illinois), Valley Girl (Hollywood, California), The Heavenly Kid (Ft. Lauderdale, Florida) and Can't Buy Me Love (Tucson, Arizona) ...etc..

My dream obviously has no budget, so let's run a contest leading up to the premiere and fly 5 lucky 80's fans and a friend to the premiere city for a weekend getaway. And on the day of the premiere we get one of the stars of the film to take these lucky fans on a location tour..of course our 80's Network will be right there capturing it all.

Would anyone like for Cindy Mancini to show us the high school from "Can't Buy Me Love"? Or Samantha Baker to show us the Baker's house from "Sixteen Candles"? The possibilities are endless...

Cindy Mancini posted this pic last night and the reason I knew something about it was through researching my 80's Movie Network awhile back.

I had a vision of purchasing The Sherman Oaks Galleria and basing The 80's Movie Network from there. But along with that plan.. I wanted to turn The Sherman Oaks Galleria into an the ultimate 80's experience. You know .. old style arcade, Perry's Pizza, movie theater, Chopping Mall steak house, and of course a Valley Girl store. My first concern was actually a Frank Zappa lawsuit, but then I discovered the Valleygirl store above already existed. What is sad about the Australian based Valleygirl store is the fact it doesn't really appear to have any association with what we perceive as Valley Girl fashion.

Who's still with me?
