This is the documentary behind why 'The Galleria' that stood in all its 80's glory had to be demolished. I don't know who came up with the horrible idea that they should unleash security 'killbots' on nightly intruders, but since The Galleria was the overnight haunting ground for such 80's movies as "Fast Times at Ridgemont High", "Breakin' All the Rules", and finally the retitled after what happened "Chopping Mall".....that might not have been such a good idea.

I know this is a Cindy Mancini fav.....so maybe she has the answer.

So the Saturday night movie is:

Chopping Mall (1986)

 -

A group of four couples plan a party at the local furniture store where three of the guys work. They just happen to plan it on the first night the new security system comes into play. The security system includes three protector robots and large steel doors that lock at midnight and don't open again until sunrise. Unfortunately, the rooftop computer that controls the robots is struck by lightning and they turn into out of control killbots attacking everyone in sight with their armament. The teens soon realize that the only way to survive is to try to figure out a way to destroy these robots.

 -

 -

Hey.. when did Samantha Belmont show up?

 -

For fan of the 80's and The Galleria, this is a Halloween must!

This is a real 80s classic. You just don't see movies like this anymore... Another good Kellie Maroney flick! She has a new flick coming out called Nightmare Carnival. It's in pre-production:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0910569/

Apparently she was just in an episode of True Blood on HBO!

"Buy or Die!" You don't get better than THAT! LOL!!!!

Yes!! Valley you totally rock! You are right, I love love love this movie!!!! It really is because of that whole Galleria thing. Being able to shop and walk around there in the early 80's would have been heaven on a stick for me!!

This movie is chock full of 80's actor/actresses we enjoy like Kelli, Barbara Crampton (Frat Vac) and the guy who played CJ in The Allnighter!

I am going to watch this tonight, in the dark, on my couch with my Halloween lights and decorations all around me and it will be PURE BLISS!!!!

P.S. Love the newspaper ad you found!! Where the heck did you score that?!?!?!?!

NowhereGirl - did you get any feedback from your friend?

CT - I must admit that the infamous exploding head is an 80's cult classic moment.

Helen - I would say thanks for posting it, but watching it over and over is starting to freak me out. Ha

Cindy - I meant to get back to you before you watched it last night. Since we both appreciate The Galleria, I thought it might be fun to see how many Galleria store names we could come up with by watching the movie closely.

Watched Chopping Mall last night.
I loved it! Awesome entertainment.

Great 80s feel throughout the movie.
Nice Wynorski and Corman movie posters on the pizzeria walls.

The lovely Barbara Crampton (From Beyond, Re-Animator, Fraternity Vacation)
The cute Kelli Maroney (Night of the Comet, The Zero Boys)

The vicious Killbots with too much firepower.

And you gotta love the good old Mr D. Miller (Gremlins, The Terminator, Night of the Creeps etc.)
Once again in a fine supporting role, although a very short one this time.

I also loved the cheap synth score by Chuck Cirino. It was magical!

You can´t get much better late nite summer movie than this!

Tony O'Dell and Karrie Emerson were in one other 80s horror film together before Chopping Mall: Evils of the Night (1985).

Jim Wynorski -- Porno Director (uncredited)

Kelli Maroney -- Herself
Jim Wynorski -- Monster in Basement (uncredited)

John Terlesky:

Deathstalker (1987)
John Terlesky -- Deathstalker
Jim Wynorski -- Dying Soldier (as Arch Stanton)

Little Miss Millions (1993)
John Terlesky -- Randolph Palmer (uncredited)
Jim Wynorski -- Man at Denver Bus Ticket Counter and Radio Voice (uncredited)

Vampirella (1996)
John Terlesky -- Astronaunt #2 (Stubble)
Jim Wynorski -- TV News Anchor (uncredited)

Storm Trooper (1998)
John Terlesky -- Shotgun
Jim Wynorski -- Tannis Coporation Scientist (uncredited).

Kelli Maroney also plays Nurse Oxford in the
1988 Wynorski "classic" Not of this Earth starring Traci Lords.
Very funny flick, if you like Wynorski check it out!

I would like to add that there is another film that Jim Wynorski makes an appearence in with one of his "Chopping Mall" cast. "Demolition High" (1996) features Gerrit Graham as Mr. Vogel while Jim, who directs as well, turns up uncredited as a police sniper.
