What do you guys think of this individual (besides the fact that he’s Josh ‘The Wonder Years’ Savino in disguise)?

I’ll admit I didn’t pay much attention to his music in the 90s, but after watching ‘Bowling For Columbine’ I’ve a newfound respect for the lanky shock-rocker, even his covers of ‘Sweet Dreams and ‘Tainted Love’ are pretty good, although that doesn’t mean I’m gonna start wearing makeup, n; PVC, proclaim Satan to the best thing since Christina Aguilera (or are they the same person?) and throw pool parties with bunny girls (much to the disappointment of my neighbourhood, I’m sure) but I may check out his old albums: “Look out world: Terrorist Mansun claims another innocent young mind” (that’d make a good headline for the ‘FCC’).

Btw any of you ever watch ‘Bo Selecta’? “It was hooorwicked” [Wink]

Josh Savino being Marilyn Manson is the oldest Urban Legend around. I can't believe this one is still floating around. They are two different people.

Edited to add this link:

Back in my day it was Beaver Cleaver getting killed in Vietnam and Eddie Haskell being a porn star.

I'm with you Kash, I also changed my mind about Marylin Manson after watching Bowling for Columbine. I can't say that I like his music (apart from the remakes you mentioned), and his videos are mostly freaky. But I respect what he does and the 'character' he portrays. I also think that he's definitely way more intelligent than most of those stupid people in the music busines.

I haven't seen Bowling for Columbine. But, I do believe Marilyn Manson- does what he does for MONEY. And I don't think that he is completely crazy, he's using a "gimic" to sell his stuff. And kids don't understand psychologically what he is doing, and they imitate what they percieve in their minds,of what he is about. And that is just as bad. Because there are kids out there that are severely abused, and are so depressed, and they think crazy looking person, can relate to their problems, and feel what they do, when he is just trying to make a buck, and I don't care what anyone says. If you didn't care what kind of "image" you were making for yourself, why would you create one at all?? I saw a piece of one of his videos, and it was so horrifying to me, the vision I was seeing, was stuff I did not want or need to be in my mind, and had no positive effect on me what-so-ever.

Thanks for that insight Jess, always a pleasure---btw, I’m totally freaked out now [Wink]

Even though I think Hipstermom27 and Deathbystereo80 are on the money with their comments here, I can also understand where Isis is coming from to an extent.

Now I’m not trying to be like Oliver Stone or anything, and if you’re squeamish then perhaps you should stop reading, but I’m just using this example for juxtaposition purposes; one of the most disturbing images I saw last year was that of a boy in Iraq who’d had his brains blown out by a wayward cluster-bomb, it was one of the most shocking newsreels of the war because you could see the hollowness behind his eyes, before that it was like the war was happening somewhere else, on another planet or not at all, and I don’t think a million Marilyn Mansun videos could compare to those few seconds of footage.

Marilyn Mansun, as far as I know, seeks to expose the hypocrisy of violence or horror, granted, some of his audience might not get the satirical slant of his songs and sometimes he does go a bit too far (like ripping up a Bible to illustrate the connection between using Christianity as a tool to propagate violence) but most of the time he knows, and has said on many occasions, that he is portraying the anger of an abused society reared on political hypocrisy and encouraged to indulge their prejudices, hence the name itself Marilyn (Monroe) and Mansun (the serial killer) the juxtaposition of glossy glamour and sick violence.

‘Bowling For Colombine’ is a top documentary Isis, one that I think you’ll appreciate and understand…you know the worlds a scary place when the most intellectual person in the room is wearing PVC and monster make-up [Wink]

What does Marilyn Manson have to do with that documentary anyway?? Do they think he had something to do with it?

Anyone who throws Charles Mansun in to their name, is someone I don't want to get to know any better. I didn't know alot of the stuff that you even said about him but that's my point...the horrific scene of the boy's head being blow up, doesn't justify Marilyn Mansun. It is all wrong. And you can go about saying politics is a bunch of crap, but you don't have to do it the way he is, that is pretty hypocritical.
What does Marilyn Mansun do with all the money he is making off his line of bullcrap he is selling everyone?? Does he give it back to charities that help abused children??
Kash, how can you go from loving Little House on the Prairie, and then now liking Marilyn Mansun, where is the progression from one to the other???
Can you see him running around on the Prairie??

quote:

What can I say? [Wink] I like things that have some kinda message to them, 'Little House's' message was one of mutual tolerance and good neighbourliness. Marilyn Mansun, though not as kind on the eyes and ears, also has an important and relevant message about the way society is heading and how wrong it all is.

Can you see him running around on the Prairie??
[Big Grin] Actually Isis, I can, imagine the episode: Pa Ingles brings a new friend to dinner, “hey half pint, now kids; I’d like you all to meet a new friend of ours…” [Smile]

I don’t want to spoil ‘Bowling For Columbine’ or Marilyn Mansun’s interview for you Isis, its better if you see it for yourself. I don’t know what Marilyn does with his money to be honest, but like I said earlier; I don’t always agree with the way he chooses to express himself, but no one, not even can harshest critics, can deny the potency/validity of his satirical backlash against globalised society. Of course, you don’t have to do it the way he does it, (and I’ve heard him say to his fans, not to be like him, but to understand what he’s singing about). And fair play to him, granted, he’s not the best vocalist of all time, but then again, some of the greatest poets in music aren’t the greatest singers (e.g. Jim Morrison, Bob Dylan, Don McLean).

Violence in society doesn’t justify Marilyn Mansun, but Marilyn Mansun never came to be in order to justify himself, he holds the mirror up to the sick, twisted hypocrisy that is modern life, his face shows the monstrosity that is the warmonger’s soul and the bureaucrat’s voice, his character is scary, its Frankenstein’s monster; reflecting the messed up nature of those that made him.

In the end, I think he epitomizes the old saying ‘never judge a book by its cover’, but you can’t really blame people for judging, when the cover’s as outrageous as Marilyn Mansun.

Marilyn Mansun is just a man, like any other person on the planet-what does he have to say that is any more important than any person on this planet, that makes people stop and listen?? Do you think if he did not "shock" everyone, that people would give him the time of day??

I totally agree in not judging a book by it's cover-to an extent, when people do very bizarre, over the top things for attention, and you have kids/teenagers-who really are in vulnerable state of their life, when they think their parents are jerks-and alot of times they are-they turn to people in the media for guidance, because they see these people being adored by others like them, and they feel connected to something, which gives them some sort of sense of belonging.

This is my whole point about life, people do and act what they see out there. If you watch a bunch of crap, and everyone from Ozzy Osbourne, to every musician is swearing, and saying the f-word, you'll do it too. It is contagious behavior.

Now, I personally think the f-word is one of the most stupidest things, someone came up with a word, and gave it this meaning, and said it was the worst word ever, and now we all are basing morality on a single word. Which could be any world in any language, but some brilliant person started this whole thing of having "swear" words, and we all bought in to it. But it is here, so whoever did that-now I have to live my life thinking about what word is a good word and what word is a bad word, when the whole thing is stupid to begin with. And kids throwing the f-word around are doing it because they see it on tv. I mean our tv is crap...and kids have nothing positive at all to help them make better decisions. I swear if every kid was made to watch Little House on the Prairie every day, you can't tell me that if you have seen that show ever, you didn't feel better about your life. I mean that was only 130 years ago...everyone was living like that, and now people have everything, and they don't care.
Little House was sad, because it was real, and you felt so sorry for them, when you saw how hard they worked, and bad things kept happening. Kids don't see that now. Where is it happening? Do you think a kid thinks I am glad I have 10 tvs and 100 videogames, when Laura Ingalls's didn't have money for a tablet of paper?? And they were so grateful to get new "books".

It is a very scary world we live in now, and people like Marilyn Mansun are NOT doing anything to add back one ounce of positivity to it. He may say all these things that make you think-oh he's not so bad-I have heard him talk before, so I know exactly what he does, and then that is how he gets your money. His voice is horrible, he can't sing worth a crap, so if he did not have this whole freakshow happening, where would he be???

If he wants to really help the world, there are a billion other ways to go about it, without confusing children.

Of course he’s is just a man, and celebrities in general tend to shy away from expressing their point-of-view, I mean you and I and everyone else, are on these boards, and we have a few laughs, few discussions and its all good, but I bet only a handful of us, if we were ever as famous as MM would have the courage of our convictions to stand up against the system, even if we knew it was wrong. Marilyn Mansun, for all his weirdness, does exactly that, and everyone takes a stand in different ways; some make documentaries, some write books, some join protests others run for congress, and Brian Warner becomes Marilyn Mansun, it may not be the most refined way to make a statement, but at least he’s out there standing up against what he believes is a society on the verge of collapse.

I agree with you 100% about the wholesale degeneration of decency and good manners in society as a whole, and yes, throughout human history confused teens do latch onto controversial and outspoken figures who are demonised and roundly condemned by the government: Elvis in the 50’s, ‘The Beatles’ in the 60s, ‘The Doors’ in the 70’s, hell, even the likes of Prince and Madonna were once considered risqué and a bad influence, fair play; Marilyn is more of a ‘shouter’ than a ‘singer’ but I’d rather hear him shout about things that matter to us all than listen to Beyonce (I like her, but I had to choose an example) sing about being crazy in love or bootylicious.

And as for confusing people? I think it’s a hell of a lot easier to explain Marilyn Mansun than it is to explain a lot of the things that have been happening in the world as of late, because Marilyn, unlike world governments and politicians, isn’t indebted to hypocrisy. Personally, I don’t know why I’m defending him so vehemently, it not like I’m his agent or anything [Smile] to all Marilyn haters I’d say: don’t be afraid of the scary man in the make up, be more afraid of the scary men in suits who are trying to ruin your lives…btw Isis, if I ever meet the man I’ll tell him to lighten up as a special request from you [Wink] , do watch ‘Bowling For Columbine’ if you get the time, it’s a top doc (and Marilyn’s only in it for about 5 mins! [Big Grin] )

I am saying the exact same thing you are-Kash, but not defending Marilyn Mansun. I don't agree with anything about the way our world operates. From the things kids do all day in school-they learn things they will never use in life, and come home with a million hours of homework, when what the heck are they doing all day in school. And I agree, that celebrities (in most cases) do not use their fame to buck the system. Because it is that same system that made them famous, and they think by saying a statement that might rub people the wrong way, might make them less appealing to the general population, and those people are who pays their bills, so they don't mess around to cut their own throat. Marilyn Mansun, did the reverse, and used being weird, to gain fame, to say what he wanted to say, but the way he did it- is the part I have the problem with. I don't know for sure what the Bowling for Columbine is about, but I watched Columbine happen for real, live on tv, and bawled my head off, because I could not believe what I was seeing. It was horrific. I can't understand what can drive 2 teenage boys to kill people they don't even know, wether they were picked on or not, too bad, everyone gets picked on, deal with it. How anyone can take another person's life and show no remorse, and the 2 of them together, neither one stopped and said "this isn't such a great idea". 1 of them drove to school in some luxury car like a BMW or something, and they lived in a very upscale neighborhood, maybe their parents were busy working, but too bad, there are worse things in life. I think it all is a problem, people "wanting" everything, and never realizing what is it they actually "need".
I know Charlton Heston is in Bowling for Columbine, and I think he's an a--. I think our countries main problem is guns and drugs, and no punishment for crime. In other countries they chop body parts off for crimes, and if they did that here, I guarantee the crime rate would decrease. We feed people and give them shelter, and cripe a college degree-how is that punishment..if your living your life barely getting by in the real world, and being a criminal anyway, what stops you from commiting a crime, cripe jail is better than the real world for those people. I think all of society is screwed up beyond belief, and I get so frustrated with the whole thing myself, because I don't think the majority of people out their give a hoot. There is no way our planet will go on for millions of more years, our planet is billions of years old, it was like 600 million years in between man and dinosaur, but look at how fast we are moving, just in the last 50 years, there is no room to go, their aren't enough good people trying to counter act all the crap like the rainforest being burn to the ground, or the ozone being destroyed, and the whole global warming process, thousands of animals become extinct every year, or are right on the verge of it. The Earth will not exist, and we will have had a part in destroying it. I am not quoting religious beliefs, or anything, just stating the facts of life as it is right now. Kash, if you like Marilyn Mansun, because you think he is doing something great for all of humanity- then your reason for liking him has at least some value to me, but I really can't see how he is a benefit to anything good.

Has anybody heard about all the inaccuracies in 'Bowling For Columbine'?

See: http://www.hardylaw.net/Truth_About_Bowling.html
http://www.opinionjournal.com/forms/printThis.html?id=110003233

I was totally impressed after seeing that movie, it was really interesting. But when I heard about all the editing tricks that Michael Moore used to his advantage, I wasn't interested in seeing any of his other films. So now I don't really know what/who to believe, or what is fact (in the documentary). But to get back to the topic, I don't like Marilyn Manson at all but he does seem like a somewhat intelligent guy. He's pretty well-spoken.

I just read that article. And I never heard of Bowling for Columbine before it was mentioned on here, I didn't know what it was, except from the word Columbine-I figured it had to do with the school shootings.

I don't know anything about the director of that documentary, but even if he got some things inaccurate or misunderstood, what does that really matter??

We absolutely do have a problem with guns and kids, and violence and drugs in our country. No matter how you want to look at it. I have never heard of other countries having this kind of problem. Other countries sure hear all of our crazy stories, from Jon Benet Ramsey to Lacey Peterson. I was talking to my mom about the Lacey Peterson thing, because I only ever heard bits and pieces of that story, but I can't believe the way the news graphically tells all the gory details of her death, and about the baby being expelled from her body after she was dead. I can't imagine my mom having to hear that stuff about me, if that happened to me. That is horrid.
Everyone is fascinated by that kind of horrific news. It is like Marilyn Mansun, the reason anyone gives him the time of day is because he is so bizarre and twisted, and weird, you see him, and are like too stunned to change the channel, and he knows that. That was his whole purpose-he is not stupid-I never said he was-he is just sick.

Drugs make people crazy, they make people kill each other over nothing. Same thing with kids, why would they take a gun to school, and want to kill another person, how can they pull the trigger? They have been desensitized to violence, they don't understand what is driving them, they don't think about people's lives.

I think about my child being in school every day, and I worry about him making another kid mad, because you can't make a person mad any more, and not worry that they might have a gun. People here in the U.S., drive each other off the road-Road Rage is insane, to get that upset and mad because you didn't make it somewhere on time, or someone cuts you off-that's crazy. I have had people do it to us.

I worry about my husband, and some upset employee coming in and killing everyone that works with him. There was a guy he works with, went nuts and went home and shot all his cats, and he pulled the cable out of the wall. Was he mad at T.V.?? Who knows. One of the most horrible things I ever heard was when that guy went in to that office building in Jacksonville Florida years ago and started shooting everyone, and they were hiding under their desks, they played the 911 call, someone repossessed his truck. There was another guy who killed people on the subway. There was that guy in LuBBock, Tx that drove his truck through the window of a cafeteria restaurant, and killed all those people, that has been years ago, and now we have children and schools, and nobody is safe anywhere. How can people be expected to go about their life and not be on edge every time you go out in public, or send your kid off to school.

I don't understand why this has not become the main focus of our lives, and trying to fix it. You don't have anyone trying to change it, just people complaining and pointing the blame everywhere but on themselves. And it seems to me that both sides of the whole Columbine Documentary did that...they pointed the blame, but not one person has come up with a plan, that everyone needs to work on as a community and as friends and families. People don't talk to each other at all. I have seen the same people every day at my son's school picking their kids up and don't even know their names. That is where the problem starts, and then just snowballs in to everything else. Nobody is home with kids, kids are watching things that shouldn't even be allowed on tv, if you have no one caring about anything, then that's why you have children not caring either, and that is exactly what has happened.
