Hi all,

I'm hoping someone can help me identify this film, I've wanted to see it again for over twenty years. I saw the movie when I was like 4 years old on TV (around 1980) and I don't remember alot about it, but I recall the basic premise: A woman was hearing voices (possibly a baby's cries, can't remember for sure...) and she was starting to kind of go crazy because of it, and at the end/climax she finds that the voices are coming from a tape recorder planted by someone. There is a scene between this woman and a man that takes place at night at a waterfall or river toward the end of the film (I believe) . Unfortunately that's about all I remember...It really creeped me out as a child, I'm not sure if it was a movie that came out in theaters or a made for TV movie. Does this film ring a bell with anyone? Thanks alot!

No, that's not it unfortunately. I remember seeing April Fools Day at a birthday party sleepover when I was 11. The one I'm thinking of was definitely from the 70's. Thanks for taking a stab at it though... (pardon the pun, hehe, I couldn't resist [Smile] )

Could it be "When Michael Calls"?? It was a made for TV movie in 1971 or 1972. This woman kept getting phone calls from her dead son, I believe, but in the end she found out it was all a hoax. Hope this helps!

Wow, that may just be it. I looked on IMDB, and googled it and that could possibly be the one I have in mind, the basic premises sure sound similar. Thanks alot, Lisa. [Razz] Now to track down the video...!

Update: Well I watched the trailer of "When Michael Calls" on IMDB and I'm pretty sure that that's not it, but I think that I have now identified the film I am looking for. I did an IMDB Power Search and it seems the name of the film is "A Taste of Evil" starring Barbara Parkins, Roddy McDowel, and Barbara Stanwyck. I'm so excited about finally having (pretty much conclusively) identified this film, I just bought a copied DVD of it on Ebay! Thanks again to the people who had suggestions for me.

Wow, am I embarassed. So I bought what I thought was the film I was looking for on DVD on ebay: I just watched it and it turns out that's not the one! I thought (based on the description on IMDB) that the film I was/am looking for must be "Taste of Evil." but that's not it, so seventeen bucks down the drain [Frown] Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, please feel free...

Ricky:

Peaches is right; it's the South African movie "The Gods Must Be Crazy" (1980).

By the way, it was shot in and around the Kalahari Desert in Africa, not the Australian Outback. The tribespeople were not Aboriginies. They were members of the San tribe, an indigenous group from South Africa and Namibia.
