So with late March snow in Northern Illinois, I ended up watching the best portion of Encore's 72 hour Big 80's Weekend movie marathon and while completely brilliant left me wanting a little more because it so closely resembled last years 80's marathon on Encore. Sure the staples were there...Risky Business, The Breakfast Club, Back to the Future, The Karate Kid I & II, Romancing the Stone and more...

A couple differences from last year were Christine late Sunday afternoon and it all finished off with Conan the Barbarian 10:30 Sunday night which got me to thinking about so many that qualify, but rarely seem to make the cut. I love sitting down for a couple movies back to back on a saturday night and would like to know your opinions of what would make great double or triple features for a Saturday night and explain thematically what makes them good companions.

Some will need no explanation of course as I have many times sat down for an Alien & Aliens double feature or a Sixteen Candles & The Breakfast Club pairing, but there have to be so many more great pairings I am not thinking of an you all are so creative, I would just love to see what you come up with! Movies i like to watch together are...

Night Of The Creeps & Night Of The Comet

I love the over the top acting and great B-movie effects...excellent 80's cheese.

Fright Night & Fright Night part 2

Just love these movies, always watch them back to back, love the Fright Night soundtrack.

These are just a couple i like to watch together but what my friends and i usually do when we get together is we all bring a 80's movie to whom ever is hosting that month and just watch them all back to back, makes for some interesting combo's. [Smile]

I like Flashdance and Footloose together...maybe Purple Rain for a triple if you have the time...all with a great focus on music.

I was actually thinking of attempting a Mad Max triple header...

Just One Of The Guys + Just One Of The Girls w' Corey Haim.

Breakin, Breakin 2, and Beat Street

Romancing The Stone + Jewel Of The Nile...and Raiders Of The Lost Ark and Temple Of Doom for a marathon...

The 3 "Gs"...Ghostbusters, Goonies, Gremlins!

For something on the horror tip...go with Return Of The Living Dead and Re-Animator! Those two together will get the party started in a big way! That was a favorite double feature back in my college days...;-)

Lonewolf McQuade+Extreme Prejudice... Texas Rangers kicking ***, and speaking almost exclusively in macho one liners!

Fright Night+Lost Boys... classic 80's vamp action!

Wargames+Manhattan Project... brainy kids against the system!

Vigilante+Savage Streets... taking out the trash with some good old fashioned street justice!

first of all i love the way you spend your sat night in - way to go, just make sure you understand that your choice of food drink and timing of this will have to be carefully planned out as well as you dont wanna peak at a sugar level too high too early and come crashing down with depression on the second movie so heres a few choices...btw Kev said the three Gs - thats hell cool right there!!!Anyway heres my opinion

Thrashin then RAD
Temple of Doom then Jewel of the Nile
Cherry 2000 then Mannequin
Best of the Best then Karate Kid
Goonies then Big trouble in Little China

Man those are great suggestions! Something brilliant in every single one of them. I love the fact that I own both Manhattan Project & Wargames and never thought of how they fit together...so obvious now!

The three "G's"...brilliant!

I thought I was the only one on the planet who would watch ANY Steve James movie! [Razz]

I have never seen Night of the Creeps and I own (and can't get enough of Night of the Comet), so I will be looking forward to that one!

Thanks everyone! [Big Grin] I will try to come up with some too if I can now and circle back as soon as we take care of a case of tonsillitis in an infant here... [Frown]

You're most certainly not the only one, earl! I Love Steve James, and have watched more or less every movie he was ever in! In my mind, he should have been a bigger star, and certainly the main lead in all those Cannon flicks, instead of whatever random whiteboy he played second banana to!

Steve James
