<- check out the previous page.

warrior, i own Uncommon Valour on dvd.
It is a very good movie with a strong cast.
It also features Michael Dudikoff in one of his first roles.

Love the pics!

hewzy, you really seem to love those two films.
Good movies but i personally wouldn´t give ratings so high.

Got a ton of 80's movies for Christmas. So far I've watched Hell Night, Witchboard, Slumber Party Massacre and Sundown Vampire In Retreat. Still have about another dozen to see.

The Enchanted (1984)

What a strange and mysterious fantasy tale
set on Florida swamps and backwoods.

Directed by a dude called Carter Lord and starring Julius Harris, Will Sennett and Casey Blanton.

It´s quite atmospheric but nothing much happens in this film.
I though that it would be a horror film but it´s more like a family feature.

Killing 'em Softly aka City Nights (1982)

Decent low-budget drama directed by Max Fischer
and starring Irene Cara, George Segal, Joyce Gordon, Clark Johnson and Nicholas Campbell.

The Finnish VHS cover art fooled me once again because i thought that this would be a thriller
but it turned out to be a lightweight drama [Smile]

Cara performs few tunes and especially the theme song "City Nights" rocks!
Only for die-hard Irene Cara fans.

Youngblood (1986)

I first saw this when it came out on video here in '87, and it still pops up on tv every now and then.
It's likable.. especially super cute Cynthia Gibb. [Smile]

 -

Oh, and the always reliable Ed Lauter (as the coach and Cynthia's dad) is in there too !

I watched Heart of Midnight starring Jennifer Jason Leigh yesterday. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095286/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1
I don't know how to categorize this film- horror or suspense. Too much Jennifer lying on a bed acting as a tortured soul, not enough backstory or real plot. It started off good for the first 15 minutes, then really dropped off. It also had James Rebhorn, Steve Bushemi and Frank Stallone in small roles and Peter Coyote in a co-starring part. Has anyone else ever seen this? What did you think of it?

Despite its great cast, Heart of Midnight is a truly boring, meandering, undistinguished film which I haven't thought about in about 25 years! I have seen all but one of the films Matthew Chapman has directed, and I didn't really warm to any of them. In the 80's, he was supposed to be this up-and-coming indie darling, but he never panned out. He then turned to writing screenplays for others, to not much better success, including some truly stupid ones like Color of Night and Consenting Adults. Judging by his imdb credits, he's worked nearly consistently for over 30 years so he's probably loaded. (A friend of a friend of mine wrote one screenplay in the 70s--Buster and Billie--which wasn't a hit, but he basically lived off the royalty checks for years. I'm sure Chapman is doing even better than that.)

Maybe Chapman will see this posting and come over here to debate me on his less-than-auspicious filmography. LOL

They Still Call Me Bruce (1987). Johnny Yune, David Mendenhall, Pat Paulsen, Joey Travolta, Robert Guillaume and Bethany Wright. A Korean comes to Los Angeles to find and thank the American GI who saved his life in the Korean War all those years ago, only to end up running a struggling karate studio while being a big-brother figure for an orphaned boy.

i really like youngblood, first time i watched i was surprised how funny some of it is,plus i liked seeing racki getting his just deserts at the end.

they made some great sports themed movies in the 80's,this and best shot or hoosiers as it's more widely known,i thought both were really good.

I just checked out Angel and its first sequel, Avenging Angel, from Netflix. The first one has a much darker tone, whereas the second movie adds in a lot of slapstick-type humor. Rory Calhoun is a riot as Kit Carson in these films, as well as D-i-c-k Shawn in his performance as Mae in the first Angel (I wish his character had not been killed off in the first Angel, as I feel that his presence would have fit like a glove in the more light-hearted Avenging Angel.).

The gritty Hollywood Boulevard locations are a huge part of the charm of the Angel movies. It'd be neat to check it out today and see if anything is still intact.

I'd have to give Avenging Angel the edge over its predecessor in the soundtrack department. The use of Bronski Beat's Why fits the opening montage of the nightlife in Hollywood Boulevard to a tee. '80s movies have always had the most captivating opening montages, and the one in Avenging Angel is no exception.

I liked both Donna Wilkes and Betsy Russell in the title role, but if I had to single one out as my favorite, I'd pick Betsy. She showed a little more ***** than Donna and seemed to relish her part.

I'll be receiving Angel III: The Final Chapter by Monday. I'll post my thoughts as soon as I view it.

Atlantic City (1980)

Excellent romantic crime film directed by Louis Malle
and starring Burt Lancaster, Susan Sarandon, Kate Reid and Robert Joy.

The film includes awesome late 70s Atlantic City scenery
(they are demolishing the old hotels and casinos and building new ones.)
All Boardwalk Empire fans should check out this one.

Dr. Alien (1989)

 -

A dorky high school student gets experimented on by his new biology teacher who turns out to be alien,
and as a result turns irresistable to every girl around him.

Dr. Alien stars Billy Jacoby (Just One Of The Guys, tv-series Parker Lewis Can't Lose),
Judy Landers (Stewardess School), and guest appearances by 80's porn-superstar Ginger Lynn,
and scream-queens Linnea Quigley and Michelle Bauer.

This Charles Band Full Moon production turned out to be a pleasent surprise.
Think of it as a low-budget b-movie version of Zapped meets Weird Science.

I have to admit my expectations weren't exactly high, but this was actually a really funny throwback
to 80's, T & A, teen sex comedies. There's car chases, funny dialogues (yes, really), cheesy 80's music,
and a fair amount of T & A (functional to the story of course) ! [Big Grin]

Here's a review of both the movie as well as its recently released UK dvd version :
www.10kbullets.com/reviews/d/dr-alien/

Check out the trailer : www.youtube.com/watch?v=SB96kQdZ94s

Dr. Alien was released on dvd by UK's 88Films earlier this month as part 5 of their 'Grindhouse Collection' series.
The other releases in this series are Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death (1989),
The Day Time Ended (1979), Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity (1987), and Creepozoids (1987).
On february 11th, the following titles will be added to this collection : Beach Babes From Beyond (1993),
Mandroid (1993), and Seedpeople (1992).
