Great to see this thread back up for 2018!

I love The Leprechaun! I don't have much time left in the horror movie season, so I better get a few in here quick.

^ I still need to watch "Jack The Ripper" [Roll Eyes]

Anyway, I'll check out this trilogy first.

"A staid U.S. ambassador (Gregory Peck) switches his wife's (Lee Remick) baby with an orphaned boy when their child is stillborn. As the boy grows, disaster surrounds him, beginning with the suicide of his nanny, and as the bodies pile up, his horrified father begins to suspect the boy is evil incarnate and must be destroyed."

With his girlfriend possessed by demons and his body parts runnning amok, Ash is forced to single-handedly battle the legions of the damned as the most lethal and groovy hero in horror movie history!"

Just finished watching this classic. -

Death Ship (1980)

"A mysterious ghostly freighter rams and sinks a modern day cruise ship whose survivors climb aboard the freighter and discover that it is a World War II Nazi torture vessel." (IMDb9

Pretty clumsy effort this one from director Alvin Rakoff. The film stars George Kennedy and Richard Crenna.
Death Ship includes chaos and desperate feel but mostly you can help but laugh, the characters are so stupid. The blood filled shower scene with lovely Victoria Burgoyne was pretty effective though. 5/10

 -

Mikey (1992)

"A seemingly innocent and sweet little boy causes murder and mayhem in his new neighborhood and falls for the teenage girl next-door." (IMDb)

So-so film this one starring Brian Bonsall, Josie Bissett (Melrose Place), John Diehl (Miami Vice), Ashley Laurence (Hellraiser) and Lyman Ward (Ferris).
The kid is evil but the plot is just too predictable. I believe that this is still banned in UK. 5/10

 -

Martyrs (2008)

"Fifteen years after a horrifying experience of abduction and prolonged torture, Lucie embarks on a bloody quest for revenge against her oppressors.
Along with her childhood friend, Anna, who also suffered abuse, she quickly descends, without hope, into madness and her own delusions.
Anna, left on her own begins to re-experience what Lucie did when she was only twelve years old." (IMDb)

Unpleasant, mean and sick. This french film is all that and more.
Its a very well made movie and features lots of blood and violence. The last 30 mins goes into torture porn territory which i dont enjoy at all.
Think twice before you put this into dvd/blu-ray player. 6/10

Yeah you're right Atomik Mikey is still banned here in the UK
http://www.bbfc.co.uk/releases/mikey-1993 which makes me curious about it!

A young woman is involuntarily committed to a mental institution, where she is confronted by her greatest fear--but is it real or a product of her delusion? - from IMDb.

Not bad Steven Soderbergh psychological thriller which I believe was shot entirely on an iPhone 7 with a great lead performance from Claire Foy it also stars Amy Irving (Carrie) and features Steven Soderbergh regular Matt Damon who turns up briefly as a police officer!

Some crazy plot developments bring it down a peg or two plus it's a bit slow to get going at first but I was generally well entertained, never bored (despite the slow opening) and there's the odd bout of sudden violence here that kept me quite alert throughout!

Pretty decent watch this! 7/10

Damien: Omen II

Damien the Antichrist, now thirteen years old, finally learns of his destiny under the guidance of an unholy disciple of Satan. Meanwhile dark forces begin to eliminate all those who suspect the child's true identity.

A solid sequel. Some memorable kills in this one, not to mention a great soundtrack from Jerry Goldsmith.

See No Evil aka Blind Terror (1971)

"A young blind woman is pursued by a maniac while staying with family in their country manor." (IMDb)

This is a good psychological thriller directed by Richard Fleischer and starring Mia Farrow.
Slow tempo but the camera moves nicely and Farrow gives a great performance. 7/10

 -

Headhunter (1989)

Pretty lame supernatural thriller with a strong african flavour starrring Kay Lenz, Wayne Crawford, Steve Kanaly (Dallas) and June Chadwick (V).
Lots of uninteresting dialog in this one but during the final 10 minutes we can finally see the monster and some action. 4/10

 -

Night Terrors (1993)

"A young girl travels to Cairo to visit her father, and becomes unwillingly involved with a bizarre sadomasochistic cult led by the charismatic Paul Chevalier, who is a descendant of the Marquis de Sade." (IMDb)

Another lame film, this time directed by Tobe Hooper and starring Robert Englund in a dual role, pretty Zoe Trilling and De Palma regular William Finley.
The film features lots of uninteresting scenes and dialog but also two nice dream sequences and Trilling shows some skin.
Cant really blame Hooper too much because he was picked up fast after the original director left. 4/10

House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

"Two young couples traveling across the backwoods of Texas searching for urban legends of murder end up as prisoners of a bizarre and sadistic backwater family of serial killers." (IMDb)

This was a good halloween film with cool cast and lots of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 & 2 influences.
I need to check out more Rob Zombie films. 7/10

 -

Burnt Offerings (1976)

"A family moves into an old, haunted house that regenerates itself by feeding off of the life forces of its injured occupants." (IMDb)

Excellent old school haunted house film and yes that means its very slow so im afraid impatient modern audience dislikes the film.
Loved the cast, the plot & the atmosphere and the ending just rocks! Recommended! 8/10

Great suggestions.

I re-watched "The Other" (1972) recently; atmospheric & extremely well-done horror film set during the Great Depression (1930's) about two twins living on farm in rural New England; mysterious, disturbing events surrounding the twins occur - until things get worse, leading up to the horrific conclusion.

Among others, the film stars a young John Ritter in a small role, as well as the beautiful Diana Muldaur as the invalid mother of the twins (DM later went on to star in ST: TNG).

Also, here's an extensive review I wrote up for the superb "Burnt Offerings" (1976), IMHO one of the top ten best horror films ever made. Note there are SPOILERS below:

BO is a superb, extremely creepy & atmospheric flick. This is one of the many excellent films from that era that proves that the '70's was the best decade for horror movies:

-The house was apparently an evil entity, and would "re-invent" itself every so often by "feeding" off of the souls of people that would temporarily inhabit the home - presumably by being "lured" into it.

This is why it destroyed itself & then re-created itself at the end, so it looked new. Also, this goes back to the beginning of the film - when the OR character commented on the pictures of the house through the decades/centuries?! (on the wall).

This is also connected to all of the dead/dying flowers in the beginning; these all get renewed by the end of the film.

-The house was apparently fixated on the young son, who nearly got seriously injured/killed numerous times throughout the film - I.e., by falling down in the beginning; by almost drowning twice in the pool; by almost dying because of the gas in his room.

-Presumably the Burgess Meredith character & his sister were much older than they looked; the cemetery OR & his son found in the back of the house didn't have evidence of any family members dying beyond the late 1880's.

- It's unclear whether there was actually an elderly mother living in the room upstairs; she was never seen, and the Karen Black character always said she was "sleeping" whenever anyone tried to see her. However, it's obvious that KB was being "groomed" to "take over" this "elderly mother" role - as was seen when she was confronted by OR at the very end. In any case, if there wasn't an "actual" person in the upstairs room, it's probable that there was some kind of evil "being" (even if it was just a ghostly one) that was in regular contact with the KB character - which is why she was always spending a lot of time in that room.

- Very impressed by the caliber of actors/actresses in this film: Bette Davis, Oliver Reed, Karen Black, and Burgess Meredith. Incredible. These days, most A-list (or even B-list) actors/actresses wouldn't be caught dead starring in what was essentially a low-budget horror film.

- The creepy, grinning tall chauffeur that the Oliver Reed character saw as a kid (at his mother's funeral) obviously stayed with him as a horrible memory, so he kept "seeing" him driving around at the house, etc. Very unnerving.

hmmmm. with the positive reviews of Burnt offerings, iwill keep an eye out for a copy on vhs.

I watched 1408 starring John Cusack and Christine. Both enjoyable flicks.

Also caught a portion of A Nightmare on Elm Street. This one never loses its chill appeal.

I watched Burnt Offerings for the first time last year (rental) and thought it was great fun and immediately went out and purchased the Blu Ray!

Need to rewatch 1408 but Christine and the original Elm Street are classics!

Halloween (2018)

"It's been 40 years since Laurie Strode survived a vicious attack from crazed killer Michael Myers on Halloween night. Locked up in an institution, Myers manages to escape when his bus transfer goes horribly wrong. Laurie now faces a terrifying showdown when the masked madman returns to Haddonfield, Ill. -- but this time, she's ready for him."

I saw this yesterday afternoon. I really enjoyed it -- flaws and all!. It's a beautifully shot movie, with tremendous atmosphere, a fantastic soundtrack and a great performance from Jamie Lee Curtis.

7.5/10

Desperate to check out the latest Halloween and hopefully will do so this weekend!

Really well shot atmospheric horror thriller from 1982 about a young man with telepathic powers who is admitted to a mental asylum after he tries to take his own life and once there starts to transmit his extremely disturbing nightmares/visions to the other patients, doctors causing mass hysteria amongst them!

Slow paced and even somewhat confusing this is still a gripping watch thanks in most part to its excellent performance's plus creepy atmosphere and is known to be a favourite of director Quentin Tarantino if that's any recommendation

Exteriors were shot in the U.S state of Georgia while interior shots were filmed here in the U.K at Shepperton Studios in Middlesex.

Stars Kathryn Harrold who starred opposite big Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1986's underatted action thriller Raw Deal plus a very good performance from Slovenian actor Zeljko Ivanek.

Certainly worth a watch! 7/10

Watched Halloween 2018 last night and a bit of a strange one this as i thought it was well put together and i did find it enjoyable but somehow i still came away feeling slightly underwhelmed and whilst I'd say it's much better than the craptastic (though entertaining for all the wrong reasons) Ressurection and also much preferable to Rob Zombie's takes on the series I still prefer parts 1 (obviously it's a classic) through to seven (H20).

Definitely a lot of positives with this latest entry though as it's great to look at and Michael's mask looked awesome this time around also a couple of the kills looked the business though I didn't particularly like the head stomp scene where he crushes one dudes head like a watermelon as for me it was about the one and only kill that didn't actually convince!

Also the twist towards the end which I'm not going to go into detail about but it was ridiculous and had me sat there in the theatre just wondering what the hell was going on?

Still a great addition to the series but with a couple of major issues I do hope it continues to pull the big bucks at the box office and so encourages a few other studios to put out some hard R rated horror and maybe even perhaps another edition to the Halloween series! 7/10

1. Halloween (1978)
2. Halloween 2 (1981)
3. Halloween 3: Season Of The Witch
4. Halloween 4: The Return Of Michael Myers
5. Halloween H20
6. Halloween 6 The Producers Cut
7. Halloween 5: The Revenge Of Michael Myers
8. Halloween (2018)
9. Halloween Rob Zombie
10. Halloween Ressurection
11. Halloween 2 Rob Zombie

Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1978)

In San Francisco, a group of people discover the human race is being replaced one by one, with clones devoid of emotion.

A classic remake that's still as powerful as ever.🌱 That ending still gets to me.. [Frown]

Sweet Sixteen (1983)

"Teenager Melissa moves into a small town filled with racial prejudice and bullying and each time she meets up with one of the boys in town, they end up murdered - but who is the killer?" (IMDb)

This was a good low-budget early 80s slasher with interesting and capable cast. Nothing really special on offer but anyway, a nice little film. 6/10

 -

The Legacy (1978)

Pretty good horror mystery film and i remember seeing this one back in the 80s.
Its slow but atmospheric and the stakes are always a bit higher when youre dealing with the devil himself. 7/10

 -

Blood Tracks (1985)

"A film crew producing a rock music video decides to shoot at an abandoned factory above the snow line. When an avalanche strands them, a murderous family living in the factory attacks and kills many of them." (IMDb)

This was a fun swedish low-budget horror film with strong The Hills Have Eyes influences.
Bad acting, some nudity and few cool kills. The band in the film is early 80s glam rock act Easy Action. 6/10

A Quiet Place (2018)

"On a devastated Earth overrun by lethal and ever-hearing predators of a possible extraterrestrial origin, the Abbotts struggle to survive in a desolate New York City in a new era of utter silence.
As this new type of invader is attracted to noise, even the slightest of sounds can be deadly; however, it's been already twelve months since the powerful monsters' first sightings, and this resilient family still stands strong.
To learn the rules of survival in this muted dystopia is essential; nevertheless, an otherwise joyous event is threatening an already frail stability.
Now, more than ever, don't make a sound." (IMDb)

This was a cool horror drama but not really that scary. If you think about the scenario its a bit silly to tell the truth but its entertaining stuff anyhow. 7/10

 -

V/H/S (2012)

"When a group of misfits are hired by an unknown third party to burglarize a desolate house and acquire a rare VHS tape, they discover more found footage than they bargained for." (IMDb)

Decent found footage scares here and its anthology film with 6 segments.
Not really fan of the subgenre but i guess this was ok. 6/10

 -

Annabelle (2014)

"A couple begins to experience terrifying supernatural occurrences involving a vintage doll shortly after their home is invaded by satanic cultists." (IMDb)

Annabelle is The Conjuring Spin-off and i liked it alright. Good cast and very well made film with few nice scary moments. 7/10

The Halloween Tree (1993)

Surprisingly dark (but nicely so) offering from Hanna-Barbera adapted from one of Ray Bradbury's tales by Bradbury himself, who also narrates. Several youngesters take a magical trip through time and space courtesy of the mysterious Mr. Moundshroud (Leonard Nimoy, occasionally reaching Shatnerian levels of overacting) and learn the origins of numerous Halloween customs, all while trying to save the life of a friend on the brink of death. Informative and touching, so kudos to Hanna and Barbera for being willing to take dramatic chances

None too bad direct to home video thriller about a couple who after bidding on a storage lockup come across some old film reels inside that contain footage of one of the Zodiac killer's many killings and when a friend declares that there's still a 100,000 dollar bounty on the Zodiac's head they set out to unmask the infamous killer once and for all!

Obviously nowhere near the level of David Fincher's highly regarded 2007 Zodiac and in all truth there nothing much alike anyway this delivers some decent performances, mild chills though I did find the climax fairly gripping and i'd say that for me the only thing that really let it down from time to time was the unbelievable decision making from the two leads!

Not bad and was worth a rent at the very least! 6/10

Other than a few unconvincing effects here towards the end of this Lycanthrope/coming of age horror fantasy this turned out to be a rather solid watch with some very decent acting on display especially from 26 year old Brit actress Bel Powley who plays the teenage lead here who is going through some rather bizzare Physical changes in her life!

Beautifully shot at times as well with a strong support cast (Liv Tyler,Brad Douriff) this whilst not without its flaws was certainly worth checking out! 7.5/10

My last bunch this year, Happy Halloween!

 -

Bad Dreams (1988)

Pretty good late 80s horror thriller, very much like Elm Street 3.
Few nice settings and scenes and a cool cast. 7/10

 -

Halloween (2007)

Halloween Rob Zombie style and it was not bad. Amazing cast (where did he find all those legendary actors?), few atmospheric moments and cool soundtrack. 6/10

 -

Halloween II (2009)

Not the sequel i wanted to see, enjoyed the first 25 mins but that was mostly a dream.
The rest is just pure desperation and brutal killing and not a single decent character to root for. 4/10
