Watched Weekend at Bernie's the other night. It was late so didn't get to see the end. It was so good seeing that movie, it's been several years. Big fan.

The Hidden is really awesome. Against All Odds has a great car chase. And for a movie with what on paper sounds like the stupidest plot ever, Weekend at Bernie's is pretty darned funny.

Lost in America (1985)

"A husband and wife in their 30s decide to quit their jobs, live as free spirits and cruise America in a Winnebago." (IMDb)

Solid road movie comedy written & directed by and starring Albert "The West Coast Woody Allen" Brooks.
Not much laughs but few fun scenes and who doesn´t like road movies? [Smile]

Clean & Sober (1988)
 -

Michael Keaton stars as a real estate agent struggling with a substance abuse problem. This film served as Keaton's first dramatic departure from comedies. The supporting cast includes Kathy Baker, M. Emmet Walsh, Morgan Freeman, Luca Bercovici and Tate Donovan. Ron Howard, who previously directed Keaton in the comedies Night Shift (1982) and Gung Ho (1986), served as co-producer.

Keaton gives a good dramatic performance in this along with the rest of the cast as well. This is definitely one of Keaton's better underrated films that any fan of his should check out if you haven't already.

When I saw Clean and Sober, I always knew that Michael Keaton had a lot of range and, like Tom Hanks, could make that transition from comedy to drama.

Haven't watched Lost In America for some years but remember quite enjoying it,never seen Clean And Sober before though so need to one day finally check that one out!

Can't actually think off a film featuring Michael Keaton that I've ever disliked though the crime comedy 'The Squeeze' which he made in 1987 was a bit of a mixed bag!

Yeah, I think that of Keaton's 80s films that one is the weakest. Touch and Go (1986) and One Good Cop (1991) are very underrated.

Touch And Go I have on a budget UK dvd and I find it to be generally very enjoyable as is One Good Cop though my memory of that one is quite vague as I've not visited it in years!

Watched the 1988 Alcatraz horror Slaughterhouse Rock aka Hell Island and whilst it steals countless moments from much superior Horror flicks most notably the Elm Street series and plot wise it's a bit of a mess overall I found it to be pretty good fun and eventful enough to never feel bored!

Cool shots of Alcatraz island,a pretty wicked music score plus an appearance from 80s pop star Tony Basil go some way to livening this one up and it is also helped out greatly by this new Blu Ray from UK Distributor 88 films which features both decent picture and sound quality plus the fact that the previous bbfc cuts https://www.movie-censorship.com/report.php?ID=772729 have now been waived makes for a much more satisfying viewing experience than the old UK VHS which I watched back in the day.

An entertaining 90 minutes despite its many faults and a nice Blu Ray release for fans (if there are any) of the movie! 7/10

Slayground a 1983 (Not sure what the 1971 on the rental sleeve is all about as that is way off) UK/US set thriller with a cast featuring Peter Coyote,Mel Smith,Billie Whitelaw and a small appearance from Night Of The Comet's Kelli Maroney this was a rather drab crime thriller with Peter Coyote on the run from a hitman who flees from New York to the British seaside town of Blackpool where he searches out his old criminal pal as played by the late Brit comedian Mel Smith.

Excruciatingly bad music score which sounds like someone going crazy on a Casio Keyboard plus no likeable characters whatsoever this was at times slow going and could have been so much better considering the cast and locations involved!

Watchable but only barely and a one time watch for me as I can never see myself revisiting it! 5/10

Watched Zapped! again for the first time in a few years and it's one of those films that for me gets more and more enjoyable with each viewing, some big laughs here from a fun cast it also features a good soundtrack,a fair smattering of nudity (You can tell this is definitely the R rated print of the movie over the original Pg version) and is a blast to watch from beginning to end!

Blu Ray has naff all extras but looks and sounds ace and for fans of the movie it's a must own release! 8/10

Quick rundown of what I've watched in total over the last week or two

 -

Revisited (after many many years) the 1985 Handmade films comedy Water starting Michael Caine,Billy Connoly and the late great Leonard Rossiter this was a sometimes uneven comedy which was still a lot of fun and to watch and featured some good laughs, great location shoot's (St Lucia,London) and a terrific soundtrack! 7/10

https://youtu.be/NVOjxMEJJ0w Water trailer (1985).

Splatter University a bottom of the barrel Slasher from 1984 which i can't say too much about as it was that terrible I didn't actually make it through to the very end!

I absolutely love slashers but this was the pits! 3/10

https://youtu.be/3_r19bXPJsE - Splatter University trailer (1984)

 -

Fatal Beauty (1987) - I hadn't seen this in years and I honestly thought that it wasn't going to hold up too well but it does and it turned out to be a really entertaining watch!

It's the sort of comedy cop thriller they just don't make anymore with a mixture of salty language, violence and funny one liners! 7/10

Slaughterhouse Rock felt a bit disappointing few yerars back but i´m gonna check out the blu-ray edition at some point. Never seen Slayground.

Zapped is great, too bad that there´s no extras. Haven´t seen Splatter University or Water but enjoyed Fatal Beauty.

Extra Terrestrial Visitors (1983)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0086026/

"A young boy in the woods discovers a lovable alien...or is it?" (IMDb)

Haha, what a stupid but kinda fun E.T. rip-off directed by Juan Piquer Simón (Pieces, Slugs).

In my opinion Steer well clear of Splatter University Atomik as it sucks big time!

Water on the other hand is quite an enjoyable comedy with a great soundtrack but it does loose it's way at times especialy towards the films finale!

"Epic tale of child sold into slavery who grows into a man who seeks revenge against the warlord who massacred his tribe. Through the history of mankind, the times that are most recorded in mythology are those of great deeds and fantastic adventures. Such a time was the Hyborean Age and the story of Conan the Barbarian. Cimmerian Conan is captured after his parents' savage murder by raiding Vanir led by Thulsa Doom, head of the malignant snake-cult of Set. Fifteen years' agony, first chained to the Wheel of Pain grinding grain and then enslaved as a Pit Fighter, forge a magnificent body and indomitable spirit. Freed one day by his owner, Conan, with his companions Subotai the Mongol and Valeria, Queen of Thieves, sets forth upon his quest to learn "the riddle of steel" which his father prophesied would confer ultimate power, and to kill his enemy Thulsa Doom."

Epic indeed! Arnie at his best.

^ Two classics!

 -

La Bamba (1987)

"Biographical story of the rise from nowhere of early rock and roll singer Ritchie Valens who died at age 17 in a plane crash with Buddy Holly and the Big Bopper." (IMDb)

Watched The Buddy Holly story earlier and now La Bamba.
Nothing earth shattering here but this was a well made biopic featuring solid performances from Lou Diamond Phillips, Rosanna DeSoto and especially Esai Morales.
Nice locations, cool music and watch out for that hot and boiling chicano blood [Wink]

Barbara Crampton (Reanimator) enlists the help of cop David Naughton to help track down her younger sister (Kim Evenson) who has been Kidnapped and forced into the adult film industry!

1987 thriller starring David Naughton and the beautiful Barbara Crampton who looks seriously great here this was an extremely daft, sleazy little thriller that moved at a fast pace and was a blast to watch!

David Naughton's (American Werewolf In London) kung Fu fight sequences with the baddie with the yellow jacket on (above front left) were a sight to behold and though I'd imagine not intentional were absolutely hilarious to watch as were many of the wardrobe choices, other pluses here was a good support cast with Charles Napier dropping in from time to time and the stunning Kim Evenson (inga from Porky's Revenge) as the Kidnapped sister who like in many of her previous screen roles spends much of her time in a state of undress!

Definitely for a select audience I would say that if you enjoyed the likes of Angel (1984),Hollywood Vice Squad etc then I'm in no doubt that you'd also have a lot of fun with this fast moving thriller! 7/10

Kidnapped is an interesting film which was released here on vhs with ultra lame cover art but i´ve never seen the tape on sale anywhere.

Watched Bad Blood (1989)
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0096876/

"Artist who lives in an old mansion imagines that her dead husband has been reincarnated as her son." (IMDb)

This was a fun low-budget psychological thriller directed by Chuck Vincent.
The movie features porn stars Randy Spears and Georgina Spelvin plus Linda Blair in a supporting role.

After the very boring first 50 minutes the film comes alive and we can see some ultracool OTT acting from Spelvin.
