This guy

youtube

has a veritable cornucopia of tv show intros, emmy awards, tv commercials etc. from the 80's (also 70's and 90's), and just one of the best TV nostalgia channels on the tube. Check it out!

Props to Muffy for this new section.

I love that there are Emmy awards clips!!! I love watching old commercials on youtube. There are tons that were just sneak previews for the fall tv lineups.........so cool to watch.

I love those TV show intros. Especially from the late 80's- early 90's. That really takes me back! Murphy Brown, Major Dad, Herman's Head, Northern Exposure etc. That's how I really learned english, more than what we learned in school.

regarding the Emmy clips. Is it just me, or were award shows back then, way more fun to watch? Most of the celebs seemed genuinly happy to be there, grateful for their awards, and the whole style was just looser and smoother than today.

I don't watch awards shows today. They're at best, cringeworthy! All that scripted, unfunny dialogue, that is suppose to pass for off the cuff remarks. The selfpromoting celebs, one douchier than the next, I can't stand it. Maybe it was the same back in the day. For some reason it just seemed easier to swallow back then.

I loved Herman's Head and Northern Exposure. I think it's awesome that this is how you "really learned English" watching American TV shows.I read everything you guys say on here and I never even think English isn't your first language [Smile]

I live near where Northern Exposure was filmed....and visited the town when I was 16 it was in "off" time though [Frown]

and props to the people who upload such things on youtube, who have recordings of all those wonderful clips. [Smile]

i have watched many, many 80s tv show episodes, intros, commercials, and cartoon clips & intros. it's been nice being able to show my daughter the things i was into at her age, not to mention the fact that she went crazy watching every episode of Kids Incorporated that was uploaded to youtube! she fell in love with that show.

i have spent an hour or two, looking up old emmy, oscar, award show wins and clips, from my generation. it's nice to re-live it. [Smile]

Yeah, thus is the power of the sitcom [Smile]

I wonder what accent I would have, if I were to visit the US, and had to speak the language for a lengthy period of time [Confused]

Burbank, California accent, most likely [Smile]

I thought that Northern Exposure was actually shot in Alaska! Well, there goes that illusion [Smile]

I watched some tv show intros and loved them!
All those familiar faces in tv shows i´ve never heard of.
And let´s not forget the cool theme tunes, Mike Post was very busy in the 80s [Cool]

Yeah, I noticed his name a lot too [Smile]

It's funny how some of these shows aged well, and others awfully! Not just in general, but to you personally. I use to watch Cosby as a kid, but now I can't stand it! And stuff like Major Dad, which I always found kinda stupid, but couldn't help watch, and still does, if it comes on. Something about that army base vibe that I dig, for whatever reason. Probably why I also watch that dreadful Army Wives show. Or maybe im just a glutton for punishment [Smile]

Well, thank ya' kindly, pittsburghgirl [Smile]

Speaking of Pittsburgh, do you, or anyone else, remember a 90's cop show, set in Pittsburgh, that had a black girl in one of the leads? I can, for the life of me, not remember the name of that show, or the names of any cast members. Think it might have been an all female cop show or something?? [Confused]

JAYLEE, I'm sorry. I just noticed this post. I remember the show that you are talking about, but I don't remember the name. My parents used to watch it. I'll try to find out.

I already found out [Smile]

It was called SIRENS!

Only cuz I happened to watch HOUSE PARTY with Kid'n'Play, and the black chick who was the lead in SIRENS was in that, so I got her name, A.J. Johnson, and looked at her IMDB credit list!

Man, what a relief [Smile]
