Granted, its been eight years since Spiderman (hard to believe, I know) but Spiderman 3 was only out three years ago. So are we to believe that the millions who saw Spidey 3 have somehow completely forgotten the previous two films that bought them to that sequel in the first place?

 -

Andrew Garfield (Brit actor, does a good American accent as heard in Lions For Lambs) has been cast as Peter Parker. He's not a bad actor but not Spiderman either. I wonder what happened to Jake Gyllenhall and Joseph Gordon Levit's auditions?

The latter was almost certain to be cast when director, the appropriately named, Marc Webb (who worked with Levit in 500 Days Of Summer) signed up for the reboot. I suppose this can only mean JGL is in as The Riddler in the next Batman movie.

If it were my call I would've jumped forward in time to a thirtysomething Spiderman with Michael Fassbinder, Ben Affleck (don't laugh) or Jude Law.

I agree.

Neither were right for Spidey. I'm starting to think nobody will ever get it right. My friend nailed the best potential Spidey ever years ago, ironically he ended up voicing Spiderman the cartoon:

Christopher Daniel Barnes. Don't be fooled by the pic. He was spot-on!

Yes indeed; that particular animated series is for me still the best adaptation of the comics, period (although the current animated series comes pretty darn close).

i had to look him up, haha greg brady from the brady bunch movie.
for some reason, i can totally see it. to be honest, i hated all 3 spiderman movies. they were crap, IMO. so this particular reboot seems warranted. [Big Grin] (well, for me-at least)

i really dig JGL, but not as spiderman. i have also heard a lot of talk about him playing the riddler. i'm all for that!

My favorite Spiderman was on the Electric Company when I was about 5 years old.

Actually, the Spiderman tv series from the 70's was pretty cool too..

The Amazing Spider-Man

The 70's Spider-Man rocked! Except for the fact that California is a very bad substitute for NY, especially when your super-hero depends on buildings!

I'm interested in the reboot as a Spidey fan, but as always it's a case of 'hope for the best - expect the worst'.

Reboot after reboot after reboot.
That´s the way it goes.

This just feels so unnecessary but that´s only my two cents talking.

It does feel too soon. Sometimes I think companies are just trying to squeeze mileage out of rights they own to certain properties before they expire.

Which is exactly the case with the original attempt at the Fantastic Four in the 90s, which they then never bothered to release in the end (perhaps for the better since the finished product was admittedly subpar).

Ironically, it had some nice ideas in it. I thought that Doom actually turned out quite well.

I was really looking forward to John Malkovitch (SP?) as The Vulture, so, disappointed that the fourth was scrapped. I'd prefer to see The Vulture or Rhino in the reboot, vs Scorpion whom eveyone else seems to favor. I actually thought that Thomas Hayden Church was a good choice for Sandman in part 3, though I think they ruined it with too many CGI effects....the giant Sandman almost makes me cry in disgust! I was never a big fan of Toby as Spiderman, so I'm not totally against the re-boot.

I'd like to see either Vulture or Electro.

I don't just think it was the CGI that ruined 3; it had a poor script, and they tried to squeeze too many villains into it without giving any a decent enough amount of time. 'Goblin' was back - with a stupid disappearing mask. 'Sandman' was great, but badly underused. 'Venom' was so-so, but also underused.

I'm open to this guy as Spiderman...the look seems close enough, but mostly because I haven't heard of this guy before. I've made the same argument with other characters in the past....I think casting a semi unknown for some of these iconic characters is always the best move...they essentially become that character, vs, oh...there's Toby Maguire in a Spiderman suit, or there's Ben Afflect in a Daredevil suit. Similar to the original Star Wars (and I know we've argued this before)...Mark Hamill IS Luke Skywalker...Carrie Fisher IS Princess Leia....a giant flaw in the prequels (amoung many other flaws) was casting Sam Jackson, Liam Neison, and Jimmy Smitts...enough of that rant.
