I thought ZZ Top's Sharp Dressed Man was pretty damn funny, as was Thomas Dolby's She Blinded Me With Science.

You folks have already mentioned some of my favorites.

Yankee Rose by David Lee Roth had a great intro.
I think you can watch it at launch.com.

I think that (some) eighties film clips were much more imaginative than they are today. A) they didn't rely (completely) on sex to sell and B) they couldn't rely as much on special effects. Also none of the copyright for popular songs had run out so musicians actually had to write their own. I get so p**sed off when I watch music videos and 8 of the top ten are just crap re-mixes of what were great songs.

I agree 200%. I have not seen a music video in who knows how long that wasn't a mini porno movie, and the song sucked to begin with, so put them both together, and all you have is a big mess.

It doesn't seem like music videos will ever be cool like they were, because the artists had to use imagination when they didn't have a big budget, but they had a good song, so it was cool to see bands like Quarterflash and The Motels make a cool video...they were like little mini movies, that told a story.
