German band Munchener Freiheit had a big hit with the 1988 track Keeping The Dream Alive https://youtu.be/eH8T_r2uVvs

I remember vividly watching the video for this on the short lived weekend morning TV show 'On the Waterfront' back in 1988. I only now realise just how Beatles-ish the song is.

Yeah that's another track I liked by The Voice Of The Beehive Logan and looking at there single releases the only one of there's to break into the UK top twenty but though they didn't have the success of many other female bands I think they've got pretty OK tracks and maybe deserved slightly better than what they got chart position wise!

Here's another one of there's that I liked - https://youtu.be/SnW9bw9kU8o - I Walked The Earth from 1987

My choice for this week is

 -

another cracking tune from Aussie rockers Icehouse from there excellent Man Of Colours LP from 1987.

Smooth Criminal" (1987) is probably my favorite Michael Jackson song, and I liked most of his other hits. However, there is something about this tune that separates it from his other material. And, the video was truly incredible as well:

Indeed the entire Smooth Criminal segment of The Moonwalker, culminating with him blowing Joe Pesci sky high, is highly underrated.

"I Drove All Night" by Orbison is a great song; I hadn't heard this (or seen the video) in many years - Thanks for posting!

The song "Self Control" by the late Laura Branigan is one of my favorite songs - superb. I heard this back in the '80's - however, I had forgotten about this ...until just recently when I saw the video for the first time. Excellent. I am now enjoying re-visiting the song after so many years. The video is quite creepy & disturbing, but also sensual - very bizarre, even by '80's standards:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miGUnKWcYeo

My interpretation of the song is that it's about someone (specifically a woman, but apparently the first person to sing this song was male - so it could be about a guy too) who doesn't like the daytime & lives for the night-time, going out and partying, etc. And, then when the day rolls around, they go about their daily lives - i.e. work, school, etc. However, they don't enjoy their dull daytime lives & look forward to the nights/weekends when they can go out again, enjoy themselves, and be "another person" for a brief time. In the video, it begins with her waking up as the dusk/evening is coming & she then looks out the window at the lights...this goes along with the lyrics:

"Oh, the night is my world
City light painted girl
In the day nothing matters
It's the night time that flatters..."

I used to do the club scene somewhat in the '90's & remember how clubbing late at night was kind of like briefly entering another world to some extent...the lights, people, etc. all looked completely different then they did during the day....I always hated waking up in the morning after I was out all night...

Self Control is certainly an awesome track nostalgic and one that i have listened to countless times over the years and it's a great pity that she passed away so relatively young as she was both very talented and very beautiful!

 -

I think we was talking about her actually on here just a little while back and someone I think it was Logan 5 reminded me of one of her other popular songs and that was Gloria -
https://youtu.be/355Fk8drgZE which I think is another awesome track!

The great "Self Control" music video was directed by the great William Friedkin. The masked man with hat was allegedly based on the classic Mario Bava horror film Blood and Black Lace.

MISSING PERSONS - DESTINATION UNKNOWN - Just feelin' like I needed something a little bit on the quirky side this week. So this fits the bill pretty well I think.

Great choices, everyone. Gloria is another great '80's song by Laura Branigan.

I haven't thought about the Missing Persons "Destination Unknown" song for years - hearing this again really brings back memories.

Here's my pick for this week - Don Henley's "Boys of Summer":

http://uploadstars.com/video/YX8AW27OOBS9

I always start thinking about this song again at this time of year, as the summer is winding down.

BOS is unquestionably one of the best pop/rock songs of the past 30 years. I first heard this back in the mid-'80's on the radio, and though I was quite young I found the song poignant & moving; the video was also quite haunting.

As I've gotten older, I've grown to appreciate and enjoy the song even more as I can really identify with the lyrics; And, as time passes, I've actually become very nostalgic for this song which is itself about nostalgia. The literal theme of summer ending and people getting back to their lives after vacations, etc. especially hits home at this time of year.

And, here's a faster, harder cover version of BOS by "The Ataris" - not nearly as iconic as the original, but still cool to hear:

Love Don Henley's original Nostalgic and while The Ataris version ain't a patch on it it's still very energetic and a none too bad cover overall!

My pick for the week is another Split Enz track -

I need me a good upbeat rockin' jam to get through this week. So enter Miss Lita and one of my favorite early 90's jams of hers. Big surprise that this is a favorite of someone that goes by the name Pyro too right? Lolz

Great choices - I had forgotten about a lot of these songs. I especially like the Split Enz & Lita Ford songs. I actually first heard of Ford in the early '90's, but I know she was a carryover from the late '80's.

My choice for the week is "Crash" (1988) by "The Primitives". Nice song that brings back a lot of memories of the era:

Doing something a little different and going with a new one this week from a band that I've been a fan of since their beginning in the late 80's. This video is actually one of my picks for best looking music videos of 2017.

NINE INCH NAILS - LESS THAN (2017)
