The Next Karate Kid
PG, Action, 1hr 44min
1994
Noriyuki "Pat" Morita, Hilary Swank, Michael Ironside ...more

Karate Kid, Part 4 is better known by its release title, The Next Karate Kid. The sole holdover from the first three KK flicks is Noriyuki "Pat" Morita, once more cast as janitor/martial arts maven Miyagi Yakuga. This time, his pupil is orphaned 17-year-old Hilary Swank, the granddaughter of Miyagi's war buddy. Relentlessly bullied by her male classmates and feeling responsible for her parents' fatal accident, Swank is taught self-worth through the tough-but-gentle guidance of Miyagi. HE ODDLY LISTS THE NAME THEY GIVE MIYAGI IN THE CARTOON."MIYAGI YAKUGA", WHEN IN THE FILM HE'S REVIEWING, THEY CLEARLY CALL HIM "SGT. KESUKE MIYAGI" BTW, I NEVER KNEW KK3 WAS SO "APPALLING" COMPARED TO NEXT KK.

The Karate Kid
PG, Action, 2hrs 6min
Opened on January 1, 1984
Ralph Macchio, Noriyuki "Pat" Morita, Elisabeth Shue ...more

Newly arrived in California from New Jersey, teenager Ralph Macchio almost immediately runs afoul of karate-trained high school bullies. He is rescued by Japanese janitor Noriyuki "Pat" Morita, who agrees to teach Macchio how to harness karate for good instead of brutality. The film culminates in a championship karate bout, pitting Macchio against his sworn enemy Martin Kove. Real-life karate champ Chuck Norris was offered the role of the sadistic coach who goads Kove into playing dirty, but Norris turned down the role, refusing to be shown utilizing his skills negatively on screen. Does this guy have a brain? Or did he even see the Karate Kid movies? Maybe he's been smokin something! That or Hilary Swank paid him off! Either way he shouldn't be doing anymore reviews. [Big Grin] [Wink] That's too funny, Claude!
