This film was, indeed, a comedic take on the Hitchcock classic “Strangers on a Train,” a movie about two guys who decide to swap murders.
This film has sort of a connection to “Ruthless People,” another film starring
Danny DeVito. In that film, he wants his wife dead. In this film, he wants his mother dead.

Scriptwriter Stu Silver plays the role of Ramon.
THROW MOMMA FROM THE TRAIN originally garnered an ‘R’ rating for a scene which Crystal reads “100 Girls I Like to F***,” written by one of the students in his class. It was changed to “100 Girls I Like to Pork” in order for the film to qualify for a ‘PG-13’ rating. In many TV prints, pork was changed to boing.
