"Threads" was written by Yorkshireman Barry Hines, renowned for works such as 'A Kestrel for a Knave', which was adapted into the Ken Loach film "Kes". Hines has since tragically been afflicted with Alzheimer's disease.
Sheffield was chosen as the setting because of the likelihood that it would be attacked due to its proximity to an NATO base.
