There are many cameos including Dom Delouise as 'The Pope' and
Ray Walston as 'The Newspaper Vendor'.
One of the craziest elements of the humor is how the filmmakers placed "contemporary" things in the world of the 1920's gangster scene, like break dancing and the Malt Liquor bull.

There are a lot of background jokes in this movie. My favorite is a sign on the wall by the entrance of Johnny's Speakeasy. It is of silhouette of a girl with a ponytail and a big red circle with slash "NO" symbol over it. It effectively says, "No nice girls." Also the bathrooms in the speakeasy are labelled, Henchmen" and "Henchwomen"

Jeffery Weissman makes an appearance in this film as a Johnny Dangerously T-Shirt vendor! He can be heard clearly shouting "Get your Johnny Lightning T-Shirts right here!". He would later go on to play George McFly in "Back to the Future" part II and III (before you write to tell us it was Crispin Glover, note that it says part II & III!)
