Dangerous Liasions was adapted from a play by Christopher Hampton called Les Liasions Dangereuses, which in turn is adapted from a series of letters by Pierre Ambroise François Choderlos de Laclos, with the same name. The original letters from Laclos form the basis of the story in all of the adaptations, including "Valmont".
"Dangerous Liaisons" has been brought out as 4 different films but most recently as "Cruel Intentions" starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, Ryan Phillippe, Reese Witherspoon and Selma Blair.
